Food Allergy Week – Show You Care

This week is Food Allergy Week – an important annual initiative of Allergy & Anaphylaxis Australia that aims to raise awareness about food allergy in Australia, to help reduce the risk of a reaction for those living with food allergy and to help manage potentially life-threatening emergencies when they happen.

  • 1 in 10 babies born in Australia today will develop a food allergy, which may put their life at risk every day. It’s up to all of us to be allergy aware to help keep people with allergies safe.
  • It’s up to all of us to know the signs and symptoms of an allergic reaction and how to respond.
  • Hospital admissions for severe allergy (anaphylaxis) have doubled over the last decade in Australia.
  • Did you know that you can be allergic to any food? However, 90% of reactions are caused by nine foods – cow’s milk, egg, peanut, tree nuts, wheat, sesame, soy, shell shellfish.
