For over twenty years, Craigburn has entered teams into the annual Tournament of Minds competition held in September at Flinders University.
Tournament of Minds (TOM) is a problem solving programme for teams of students from both primary and secondary years. They are required to solve demanding, open-ended challenges from one of the following disciplines:
- Science Technology
- Engineering Mathematics
- Social Sciences
- Language Literature
This morning I had the opportunity to visit Flinders University to view our teams’ performances, which students had been working on over a six week period.
Both teams of seven students, presented creative solutions to their problems, demonstrating skills in divergent thinking, problem solving, risk taking, cooperative learning and team work – all within a spirit of inquiry and a love of learning.
Special thanks and commendation to Mrs Robertson who once again coordinated and facilitated the teams – often spending many after-school hours with the teams preparing their solutions. Mrs Robertson also volunteered her time to judge other team’s solutions.
Congratulations to all students who participated – your performances were enjoyable to watch and showed how well you worked together over six weeks to present such creative solutions. Well done!
