The Weekly Wrap

Dear Families and Friends, welcome back to school for Term 2.

A special welcome to all new families who are joining us at Craigburn for the first time.

Term 2 promises to be another busy term, starting with Swimming Week for the Reception to Year 2 students at the Marion Aquatic Centre. A reminder to make sure you have the bathers, towel etc. ready to go.

Please check in with our school calendar to keep informed and updated with Term 2 programs and events, including:  Pedal Prix (Year 6/7), NAPLAN tests in Week 3 and 4, Winter Sports (Netball and Soccer), SAPSASA Events – Cross Country District Athletics, Mothers Day Stall, Team Assemblies in Weeks 4 and 8, Canberra Camp – a highlight for our Year 7 students). Teachers will be busy from mid-term onward writing mid-year reports.

We haven’t received any formal information from the department regarding the outbreak of influenza in the Adelaide community as reported in the media. Though, we do though remind parents with the upcoming winter season to keep children at home if they are unwell and showing influenza type symptoms. Please check in with this fact sheet from SA Health.

Staffing Update – There are a few minor changes to our staff list for Term 2:

  • Brooke Hamden (Year 1) is on leave for the first three weeks of term. Thank you again to Petrea Fokkens who will be covering in Brooke’s absence.

Late Last Term and the Holiday Period

  • On Tuesday 9th April our students were entertained by the Band of the South Australian Police – please check in with our Facebook Page for a few photos and short snippet of their performance.
  • Special thanks to our school representatives Dylan and Kai who placed a wreath on behalf of Craigburn P.S. at the Blackwood ANZAC Eve Youth Vigil.
  • A good news story as posted on our Facebook Page – involving an Australian family sharing their travel adventures in France with their young son placing a cross with message on the grave of a fallen Australian soldier from WW1. The message on the cross was written by former Year 7 student Azalea at the Australian War Memorial on the Canberra Camp in 2017. You can read the story in more detail here.
  • Thank you to families who attended their child’s / children’s student led conference/s. These conferences are an important part of our annual assessment and reporting practices where students take an active role in sharing their reflections of their achievements from Term 1 and learning goals moving forward. If you were unable to meet with your child’s teacher, please contact them to arrange a time to meet early this term.

Friendly Reminders

  • Thanks again to all parents who have taken the time to support the school last term and into this next one.  We are fortunate to have supportive families and friends who take an interest in school life. A reminder that all volunteers are  required to complete the necessary volunteer requirements before volunteering at school. Opportunities to help out in various ways are communicated to families throughout the year. Please check in with these requirements if you would like to volunteer.
  • The Drop Off and Pick Up Zone (off Murrays Hill Rd) displays signage informing motorists that parking in the Zone is restricted to 2 minutes from 3.00 to 3.30pm. This traffic control was put in place from the City of Onkaparinga to better support traffic flow and minimise traffic congestion on Murrays Hill Rd prior to school dismissal. Traffic rangers visit schools (mostly without notice) to monitor these zones, and will issue infringement notices when appropriate.  Parents and friends who arrive early for pick up are encouraged to find suitable off-street parking and arrange a location to safely meet their child / children.

  1. Hi all, will district athletics continue regardless of the weather on Thursday? I have noticed it is expected to rain Thursday. Thanks in advance!
If you could leave the reply here in the Craigburn Connections.

    1. Thanks for your enquiry Melanie. The decision to proceed with the event will be determined by the organisers, being School Sports SA. At this stage our understanding is that the event will proceed unless we are informed otherwise. We will inform families ASAP if the decision is to postpone the event.
