Term 1 Sports Update

District Swimming Carnival – Friday 28th February – Marion Outdoor Swimming Pool

Students who expressed an interest in participating in the District Swimming Carnival, have received information to nominate. There are 50m events for 10 yr old (2010), 11yr old (2009), 12yr old (2008) and 13yr old (2007) girls and boys in freestyle, breaststroke, backstroke and butterfly and a 100m freestyle event in open age. There are a limited number of nominations we can enter per event, therefore students need to be very competent swimmers at 50m or 100m, be able to swim the stroke correctly and be able to dive in from a starting block to enter. There are stroke judges watching each race to ensure swim strokes are correct. If students are successful in their events they may gain selection into the Southern Heights Swimming team to compete at the State Carnival on Thursday 26th March.

Forms need to be returned to school by Friday 14th February for nominations and selections to be processed. If students have swim times from previous races please submit these with the nomination form.

Sports Day

This year our Sports Day will be held on Friday 21st March.  When students start school they are assigned to a house team being Bradman, Fraser, Riley or Woodforde. On sports day classes are involved in a range of tabloid and athletic events on the school oval, courts and gym. Families and friends are encouraged to join the students on this day.

Year 7 students have the opportunity to nominate for a leadership role for Sports Day House Leaders. Students who have nominated are presently preparing speeches which they will deliver to their house teams on Friday 21st February.

If anyone knows of a local sporting identity that would be able to speak at the opening of sports day please contact the school or email Karen: Karen.pettman675@schools.sa.edu.au
