The Weekly Wrap – Term 2 Week 8 – 2020

Winter has well and truly arrived, bringing about much needed rain to many parts of the state. Here at school, the wintery weather often restricts our ability to access the oval for outdoor PE lessons and at recess and lunch. This of course means more students congregating on hard play surfaces and around buildings. Students are continually reminded about safe and appropriate play on these wet weather days.

Facilities Updates

We have a number of facilities upgrades and maintenance jobs in progress.

We are in the preliminary stages of developing a scope of works for the upgrade of the junior primary playground, where we are working closely with our facilities team to prepare initial concepts. Ideas for new playground equipment will be shared with classes over the coming weeks.

As previously mentioned, the Gym / Hall is set for a major overhaul, with new flooring and lighting to be installed. We are thankful to have this funded by the department after much consultation. New LED lighting will be installed along with a new modern sports flooring product to replace the existing parquetry and carpet flooring. This work is now scheduled for the end of Term 3 holiday break.

You may have noticed that the new addition to the bin enclosure – to safely and securely house all of our school wheelie and munchie monster bins.

We have also had our fair share of outdoor plumbing / roof leaking issues over recent times, which are currently being attended to including: the gym roof and the environmental learning centre.

Traffic

Unfortunately, we are having to again remind everyone of the need and importance of adhering to local parking and traffic regulations in and around our school. The afternoon pick up on Murrays Hill Rd seems to attract the most attention. We encourage you to follow the road rules and signage to minimise disruption around this time.

Student Free Day

Last Tuesday our staff engaged in professional learning centred on our learning improvement priorities. Teachers further deepened their knowledge, understanding and application of explicit direct instruction and evidence based practice in reading and writing.

COVID-19 Update

Thank you for your ongoing support in continuing to practice social distancing whilst on school grounds as well as refraining from entering classrooms.

Best wishes to all for the week ahead.

Regards, Paul, Rob and Nicky
