Today we had our first Year 2, 3 and 4 assembly for 2017. Mr Hanna’s Year 4 class were wonderful hosts and showed great persistence to present the assembly (there were quite a few technical issues!).
Our class did a great job sharing the rubber thong art activity from a couple of weeks ago.
Here’s a clip of the class sharing our item. A huge thanks to Jesse and Cooper who were brave enough to introduce our item to the whole group. (Sorry for the blurry start to the clip).
Congratulations to Emma, Jay, Cooper, Riley and Kate for receiving their first assembly awards.
Please check our our thong art in the school’s Front Office next time you’re visiting.
Last week we had a very special Sharing Time topic. We read a picture book called Wilfred Gordon McDonald Partridge by Mem Fox, an Adelaide writer (our home town). The book mentions how a young boy meets an older lady and how he helps her to remember lots of different things – many of them very special to her.
We used this storyline to create our own special memory bags to share with our classmates. It gave us a wonderful insight into each other as we get to know each other this year.
Here are some photos of each of the presenters with their special memory bags.
We would like to congratulate Akash and Emma on being our SRC Reps for Terms 1 & 2 this year.
Our back-up reps are Cooper and Esther W.
We think everyone did a wonderful job to give a speech to the class explaining why they would make a good rep for our class. It’s a brave decision to give a speech in front of the entire class. If you weren’t successful this time remember you can try again in Term 3.
We are currently reading a Geronimo Stilton book as our class novel. Alice, one of our Year 2 girls, brought the novel in because she thought we’d enjoy reading a book from her book collection at home. Thanks Alice!
During our reading sessions we draw different images that are described in the book to help us create a mental image of what’s happening in the story. We often share our pictures afterwards during a gallery walk to see how other class members see the same description. This also supports our Daily 5 Reading CAFE strategies – creating a mental image. It’s a very important skill to develop as a reader.
We used the Seesaw app drawing tool to draw Geronimo Stilton entering a school for a presentation. He arrived there in a taxi and was very nervous during the taxi ride. He’s going to make a speech at the school and this is why he’s so nervous. Each student was asked to draw what they could picture in their minds and then use the microphone tool to give a verbal description of their picture. Then they posted this to their folder in Seesaw. We’ve had lots of positive feedback to our pictures already.
Today each student brought home their Seesaw app note for parents. This note explains how parents can download the Seesaw parent app and then use each child’s specific QR code to access all learning that we’ve shared on the Seesaw site.
I hope you have a wonderful time looking at your child’s learning – this is such a fantastic way for us to communicate with our families.
We’d like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas! We’ve had a fantastic year of learning and lots of fun together….here’s a few little clips for a Christmas laugh.
Today we held our annual Craigburn’s Got Talent event. This is one of our school’s favourite events of the entire year.
About 3 weeks ago we held R-7 auditions and today was the day our finalists got to show us their talents.
We had a very special guest attend – Mrs Nan Johnston. She was the first person to start Craigburn’s Got Talent many years ago.
We had 16 items performed today – many dances, singing, musical instruments played…just to name a few. They were all highly entertaining and the crowd really loved their items.
Our class was lucky enough to have 2 finalists. Evie performed a solo dance and the crowd just loved it. She danced so confidently and knew lots of amazing dance moves. The other item was by Lucas, Ethan F and Isaac. They performed a song by Bruno Mars called Uptown Funk and we all LOVED it too. The audience loved the group’s performance – they knew all of the lyrics to the song, had some great dance moves and Isaac was fantastic on guitar (nice knee slides too).
These 2 items tied for 3rd place – what a fantastic achievement. Congratulations.
Today’s event really proves just how much talent we do have at Craigburn Primary. We can’t wait for next year.
What was your favourite part of Craigburn’s Got Talent?
This morning all of the Year 2 classes were open for our families to visit and see all of our latest artistic creations. It was lovely to have so many parents, grandparents brothers, sisters and cousins visit. Each student used the brochure they’d prepared for the tour and took their visitor around the room explaining all of the creations we’d made as a part of our Inquiry topic.
What was your favourite part of having visitors to our classroom? Why?
