Food Allergy Week – Show You Care

This week is Food Allergy Week – an important annual initiative of Allergy & Anaphylaxis Australia that aims to raise awareness about food allergy in Australia, to help reduce the risk of a reaction for those living with food allergy and to help manage potentially life-threatening emergencies when they happen.

At Craigburn, we have many children who have food allergies which can impact on their day to day health. To support our students who do have food allergies, we ask that families take to time to visit to find out how you can support.

Fast Facts

  • 1 in 10 babies born in Australia today will develop a food allergy, which may put their life at risk every day. It’s up to all of us to be allergy aware to help keep people with allergies safe.
  • It’s up to all of us to know the signs and symptoms of an allergic reaction and how to respond.
  • Hospital admissions for severe allergy (anaphylaxis) have doubled over the last decade in Australia.
  • Did you know that you can be allergic to any food? However, 90% of reactions are caused by nine foods – cow’s milk, egg, peanut, tree nuts, wheat, sesame, soy, shell shellfish.
