Last Monday evening 5th March, we held our Annual General Meeting (AGM) in the school library. It was rewarding to see a supportive group of parents and school staff in attendance.
The meeting commenced with our garden specialist Kate Washington giving an excellent presentation of the work happening in the environmental learning centre and the types of lessons selected classes are undertaking in 2018. Stay tuned for a future new post by Kate.
Presentations of reports from the various subcommittees followed – including the Principal and Governing Council chairperson reports. Special thanks and acknowledgements to the convenors of the various subcommittees who presented reports.
Following on from the reports, vacancies for the 2018 Governing Council were filled from nine nominations. Note – the tenure for new council members is two years.
Our Governing Council for 2018 is:
- Continuing members: Lisa Slate, Karen Giakoumis, Donna Richards-Stone, Jane Syme.
- New members: Jodie Williams, Katelyn Adams, Kerrin Burrow, Belinda Cece, Lisa Barkham, Steve Bottrill, Kylie Basley, Jessie Sansome, Samantha Slattery.
- Staff reps: Term 1 – Veronica Khalaf and Rob Warncken.
I would like to acknowledge and thank retiring members Glenn Chapman and Amelia Balmer for their excellent commitment, support and service to our school community over the last two years.
Thank you also to Kerrin Burrow for leading our Governing Council in 2017. Kerrin has provided outstanding support and advocacy for Craigburn and as part of her chairperson’s report, highlighted the incredible community effort and support of the ‘Do It In A Dress’ charity fundraiser led by Mrs Hepworth’s Year 5 class in Term 3. With a little bit of extra media attention in a very short space of time, $311,140 was raised supporting over 1000 girls in Africa to receive a school education. This is a remarkable achievement and one in which our school community should be very proud.’
Please take time and read through the AGM booklet below.
Finally, we presented the 2017 Volunteer Award for Outstanding Service to Kim and Simon Nash – please refer to the separate post, congratulating Kim and Simon on their outstanding volunteering service to the Craigburn Primary School Community.
At our first Governing Council meeting on Monday 19 March, elections for office bearers will be held.
Please stay tuned to Craigburn Connections for updated information regarding the list of Governing Council subcommittees open for parents to join in 2018. We highly value the excellent parent support in many facets of school life.
Kind regards, Paul
