Department for Education ICT Visitors
Last week Scott Bayliss (Executive Director, Chief Information Officer) and Matthew Henderson (Senior Business Engagement Officer) from the Department’s ICT services visited Craigburn, where students and teachers shared their use of technology in learning and teaching.
Both Scott and Matthew commented on the high-level and effective use of digital technologies which are embedded into everyday learning tasks for students on mobile devices at Craigburn including the use of apps which support – phonics / reading development, coding of Bee Bots in German, musical composition in GarageBand, writing development using Book Creator and the simplicity of access of information for students (eg Google Maps).
Having visited many schools, both secondary and primary, Scott and Matthew also commented on the depth of technology access students have at Craigburn in comparison to most other schools. Special acknowledgement to Year 7 student Elliot T for sharing an excellent keynote presentation on his school / personal use of the Makers Empire 3D Printing Software, which was highly commended by our visitors.
Student Mid-Year Reports
On Wednesday 3rd July in the last week of school for this term, you will be receiving your child’s mid-year report. Over recent weeks, teachers have been busy preparing students’ reports based on assessments and evidence of learning over the first semester.
For students in Years 1 – 7, A-E grades are assigned based on evidence of learning processes and products that reflect their progress against the achievement standards within the Australian Curriculum.
- An ‘A’ grade indicates that the student has shown a thorough knowledge and understanding of a topic and can apply that information in unfamiliar situations.
- Typically a ‘C’ grade means a student is achieving what is expected of them at that point in their learning. This is a considerable achievement because of the high expectations built in to the achievement standards.
- An ‘E’ grade means the student is just beginning to work towards the achievement standard.
Note – letter grades are not assigned and reported to students in Reception, however the report for Reception students provides information to families based on the Foundation Year level within the Australian Curriculum.
When receiving your child’s report, please take time to acknowledge their achievements and efforts as well as how they are progressing socially and with their learning dispositions (eg attitude, effort, work habits, etc).
If needed, please touch base with your child’s teacher if you need clarification, have any concerns or are seeking advice on how to support your child at home.
2020 Reception Enrolments / Transition
Families that have a sibling enrolment for 2020 will receive a transition letter in Term 3 outlining information for transition visits, which will occur over three consecutive Wednesdays – 13th, 20th and 27th November.
Leaving Craigburn in 2020?
Aside from Year 7 students graduating at the end of this year – if your child will not be returning to Craigburn Primary School in 2020, please inform the front office. This will help us with our forward planning for the 2020 school year.
Absences and Exemptions
Thank you to those who contact the school to inform us about your child’s absence. A reminder that a reason also needs to be provided. If you can’t do this in advance, please send an email (to our admin) or phone 8270 4144 on the day. Please remember to say your child’s name, class and reason. If your child is going to be away for a longer period whether it be for holiday / illness / family reasons, an exemption form needs to be completed (available from the front office).
