As you would be aware, the coronavirus situation is developing quickly, and the advice from the department and SA Health is now changing on a regular basis. As such, we will endeavour to keep you updated with all relevant information as soon as we can.
You may also be aware of the Prime Minister’s recent announcement to limit public gatherings. This advice does not currently apply directly to school settings, however in light of the Prime Minister’s comments, we understand that SA Health are considering the best steps for social distancing in order to minimise the spread of the virus.
We expect to receive updated information from the department in coming days and will let you know as soon as possible what any new advice means for our school community, and in particular what it means for events such as assemblies, sports days, excursions (including swimming / aquatics) and camps.
A general closure of department school sites is not currently under consideration. However, as per the recent letter from the department, a school closure will take place in the event of a confirmed case within the community. This advice may change in the future.
We encourage families to read the coronavirus fact sheet from the Department of Health, and we particularly stress the importance of children (and staff) not attending school if they are unwell or are displaying flu like symptoms. School staff will continue to advise students on hand washing and personal hygiene practices.
As the saying goes, we are living in interesting times. Herein lies an opportunity for us all to learn and develop valuable life skills such as resilience, problem solving, critical thinking, global awareness, collaboration and empathy – just to name a few.
I have great faith in our community to respond optimistically to the challenges that lie ahead.
Stay safe and enjoy some quality family time over the weekend.
Kind regards, Paul
Paul Luke – Principal
