The Weekly Wrap – COVID-19 Update #9

Dear Families

I wish I was writing to you about our successful sports and harmony days which would have taken place last week, but sadly this isn’t the case.

The COVID-19 situation is changing every aspect of lives as we know it. I particularly want to extend my thoughts and best wishes to those of you who have been directly affected by the COVID-19 situation, whether it be work or family related. Hang in there!

It is a difficult time and will be so for some time to come. We will continue to do what we can to support our students, staff and families.

Sending positive thoughts to all for the week ahead.

Regards, Paul

  • Please take time to read through this update. Apologies if some content is a repeat from the last update.
  • Thank you to those who have subscribed to our news blog and / or provided the school with up-to-date contact details.

Student Absences

  • We are experiencing increased student absences at this time.
  • Please keep your child / children home if they are unwell.
  • If students present unwell during school hours, parents / caregivers or emergency contacts will be called to collect them.
  • All students who are unwell with fever and/or respiratory infection should remain at home until symptoms resolve.
  • Students returning from overseas must self-isolate for 14 days.

  • Please inform the school via email or phone if you have chosen to keep your child / children at home without them having any symptoms of illness. Thank you.

School Closures

  • At this point in time, the current advice has been that schools remain open, but we are also being told to prepare for continuity of learning away from school.
  • The federal government is meeting with health authorities tonight (Sunday) to decide on an action plan for school closures.
  • In the event of a school closure, we are considering remote learning options and what this might look like.
  • Students may be asked to take home key materials and resources in preparation of a closure.
  • Stay tuned for more information.

Home Learning

  • Our department is soon to advise us formally what ‘home learning’ will look like in the event of a school closure.
  • In early preparation for this, a team of teachers met last Friday to discuss and consider ‘home learning’ options and have developed ‘Home Learning Packs.’ for students who are not attending for self-isolation reasons.
  • ‘Home Learning Packs’ will include: both online and printed materials, a suggested timetable, recommended tasks for specific year levels, parent / caregiver and student guidelines, and communication protocols.
  • Early this week, we will making contact with families who have chosen to self-isolate their child / children from school and provide them with information and access to a ‘Home Learning Pack.’

Social Distancing

  • We have been required to reduce support personnel and visitors to the school.
  • Parents and caregivers are kindly asked not to enter classrooms to drop off / collect children.
  • Future group tours are suspended into the foreseeable future.
  • For the time being, we can longer have parent volunteers helping out at school – this includes the canteen.

Personal Hygiene / Cleaning

  • Tight procedures continue to be in place for regular hand washing throughout the school day.
  • Toilets are being checked regularly to ensure soap dispensers have an adequate supply of soap.
  • Our groundsman has increased time and will regularly clean door handles / drink fountains etc.
  • Fresh supplies of paper towels have been distributed to classrooms for hand wiping (after washing).
  • Additional daily cleaning is being undertaken across the school.

Staff Absences

  • Staff are instructed to stay home if they are unwell with relieving teachers employed to cover any absences.

School Finances

  • We have extended the payment of school fees until the end term 3.
  • For all existing payments other than school fees (eg swimming, sports), we are going to credit payments made to this point to your school account.
  • Credits can be applied to any outstanding fees. By the end of term, financial statements will be issued.
  • For any families experiencing financial hardship, please contact me (Principal) at school on 8270 4144 or email

Year 7 Canberra Camp / Other school camps

  • Unfortunately, we have postponed the Year 7 Canberra Camp given the current situation.
  • Our Canberra booking consultants are endeavouring to book another time later in the school year pending the availability of suitable accommodation and daily excursions.
  • Other school camps are in limbo at this stage.

  • Staff are doing their best in these trying times as are families.
  • We are proud of the way our students are conducting themselves.
  • As always, we will continue to monitor and support their (and staff) wellbeing.

Once again, thank you for your ongoing support and understanding. Stay close to your family and friends.

Take care.

Paul Luke – Principal
