The Weekly Wrap – Term 3 Week 1 – 2021

We welcome students, staff and families back to school on Monday (19 July) – we hope everyone managed to enjoy some family time over the holiday break. Thank you for taking time to check in with the first weekly wrap for Term 3.

Kind regards – Paul, Rob and Nicky.

COVID Update

As the COVID situation is close to our doorstep, we remain prepared and continue to follow the advice from SA Health and Directions set by SAPOL. We ask that you please take time to re-familiarise yourself with the following requirements and information:

  • Adults, including parents and carers must continue to physical distance wherever possible, including at school pick up and drop off or when attending school events. Parents are asked not to come into the school grounds before 3:00pm.
  • The current increased cleaning will continue.
  • Students and staff need to stay home if they are unwell. Please remember to contact the front office of your child’s absence in advance where possible.
  • All adults, including staff and parents, are expected to use the COVID Safe Check-In (QR codes) when entering classrooms/buildings on site. If you do not have a phone then parents need to go to the front office to physically sign in if they intend to enter a building.
  • All volunteers are still required to sign in at the front office.
  • In addition, please ensure that you have followed all cross border travel restrictions. See link to the SAPOL cross border travel advice.

Please keep the school informed of any recent changes to your contact details.

Thank you for your continued understanding and support.

Restricted access to school via main path

Students and families are advised that access via the main school path from the ‘kiss and drop zone’ on Murrays Hill Rd is closed until concreting works are completed. Entry to the school will be diverted through the staff car park.

Unfortunately, the upgrade to the main path to the school could not be completed by the concreting contractors due to inclement weather last week. This diversion, marked off by bollards and bunting will remain in place until works can be completed.

We especially request that parents and carers refrain from accessing the staff car park. If using the OSHC facility, please park in the kiss and drop zone to drop off or to collect your child/ren. Thank you.

Staff Professional Learning – Holiday Workshop

A big shout out to the team of Craigburn teachers from various year levels who undertook a 5-day multisensory structured language program workshopin the second week of the holidays hosted by Yoshimoto Orton-Gillingham.

Lisa, Adriana, Andrea, Rebecca and Pip are very much looking forward to sharing their learning with colleagues and to deepen our structured literacy practices.

Student – Personal Mobile Phones and Digital Devices

From the start of Term 3 a new departmental policy will be implemented. This policy is about the student use of mobile phones and personal devices while at school. (Please note this does not include BYO iPads)

The departmental position is that primary aged students will not be permitted to access or use their mobile phones or personal devices (with data plans) during school hours.

The department has provided a policy template for schools to follow which includes the following key elements: Purpose, Mobile phone for primary school students, Storage of personal devices, If the student does not comply, Roles and Responsibilities, Communication and Review, and Supporting Information.

We encourage parents to read through the attached policy and discuss the key expectations with your child/ren. We will also be taking time to discuss this policy with students at school.

Please note:

  • Upon arrival at school, mobile phones and personal devices (including phones and smartwatches with data plans) are to be switched off and stored in students’ bags until the end of the school day.
  • If preferred by parents/caregivers, mobile phones and personal devices are able to be stored securely in the office. They must be delivered upon arrival at school and collected promptly at 3:10pm. Please provide a named zip lock bag for easy identification.
  • If students are not compliant with these expectations, devices will be confiscated and for repeated incidents the school’s behaviour support policy will be applied.

We recognise that parents rely on these devices to communicate important messages such as ‘pick up’ arrangements. Please note that students will not receive these messages until the end of the school day.

If you have an urgent message for your child/ren please contact the school via the Front Office on 8270 4144, where messages will then be relayed to your child/ren.

The full policy can be viewed here and further below.

To Note

Reception Enrolments / Transition for 2022

  • Families that have a sibling enrolment for 2022 will soon receive an enrolment form and letter outlining information for transition visits, which will occur over three consecutive Wednesdays 10th, 17th and 24th of November.

Leaving Craigburn in 2022?

  • Aside from Year 6 and 7 students graduating at the end of this year – if your child will not be returning to Craigburn Primary School in 2022, please inform the front office.
  • This will help us with our forward planning for the 2022 school year. Thank you.

Staffing Update

  • We welcome Sam Slattery (School Services Officer) who will be assisting with front office duties this term.
  • We are working with the department’s HR ancillary team to finalise the merit selection process for the appointment of a new business manager to replace Vivienne Menere who has recently retired.

Term 3 School Closure – Reminder

  • School Closure (Royal Adelaide Show) – Friday 10th September

Facilities Updates

  • As mentioned before the main access path to the school has been redeveloped, though awaiting for the final concrete pour – weather permitting.
  • New storage facilities have been installed in the main school hall as part of an upgrade to our school facilities supporting our OSHC program.
  • Inclement weather over the second half of the holidays has hampered the installation of new pavers to the bottom level of the new amphitheatre. We look forward to this being completed soon.
  • We expect some trimming to take place to trees within school grounds as a result of a recent audit.
