The Weekly Wrap – Term 4 Week 6 – 2021

The 2021 school year is drawing to a close, although there is still much to cover over the next four weeks.

Please take a few moments to check in with this week’s wrap.

Kind regards – Paul, Rob and Nicky

Staff news to share

We congratulate Chelsee Clarke (Finance / Admin School Services Officer), who has recently won the position of Business Manager at Parkside Primary School, beginning next year. Chelsee has provided excellent service and support to our school in the areas of finance and general administration over many years. We look forward to formally acknowledging Chelsee for her service at Craigburn.

We also congratulate Jack Walton (Learning Support SSO, and OSHC staff member) for winning the position of OSHC Director at Pimpala Primary School – commencing next week. Jack has been a great support to our school in his OSHC and SSO roles and we wish him all the very best in his new appointment.

A special mention and congratulations too, to Bron Johnson who married John Fabrici on Saturday. Bron is taking a few days off this week from office duties to enjoy some time away as Mrs Fabrici. Thank you to Sam and Julianne who will be providing additional front office support this week.

Celebration Night

It is with much regret, for the second year running, that we cancel Celebration Night, traditionally held on the Monday evening of the final week of school. The decision to cancel the event was not taken lightly after discussions with our school staff and governing council members, having considered the many organisational, preparation and COVID safe requirements (as per the advice from SA Health and the Department for Education). There is still much uncertainty as to what will happen once the borders open from the 23rd November, although we know that current density requirements will remain in place, prohibiting us from the close gathering of families on the sloped grassed areas next to the oval. We ask for your support and understanding regarding this decision.

Reminder – Student Free Day – Friday 26th November

We remind families that our final student free day is on Friday 26th November. On this day, teachers and support staff will be exploring the department’s new curriculum documents and resources, reviewing our site improvement plan and analysing this year’s student learning data. A reminder that our OSHC service will be open on this day.

Last Day of the School Year – Early Dismissal – 2.10pm

As per the department’s policy and procedure regarding early dismissals, schools are only able to dismiss students up to one hour prior to normal dismissal. This means that on our last school day of the year, Friday 10th December, students will be dismissed at 2.10pm.

Premiers Challenges

Well done and thank you Karen Pettman for coordinating and promoting the Premier’s Be Active Challenge. A fantastic result to know that Craigburn is in the top 50 SA schools with an invitation to receive a special award from the Premier in coming weeks.

Thank you also to Jane (Library SSO) for coordinating the Premier’s Reading Challenge this year – a terrific opportunity and achievement for our students.

School Facilities Projects

The Year 1 block has now been fully repainted and carpeted. Students and staff are looking forward to moving back into their spaces on Monday afternoon.

The final part of the amphitheatre project involves the painting of the steps, which will take place over the January holidays. Check out the colours from the Laykold colour chart below, used on tennis courts.

Kangaroo Island Camp

Best wishes to the Year 7 team heading off to Kangaroo Island this week, Tuesday to Friday – being the last of our school camps for this year. Special thanks to the teachers and parents who will attend.

Reception Transition

On Wednesday we welcomed our new receptions starters and families for 2022, who continue their visits over the next 2 Wednesdays. A special welcome to all new families.

Student / Class Placement Update

The student / class placement process is a complex and time-consuming one, involving multiple factors. Students will be informed of their class placement on Wednesday 8th December, when they get to visit their new class for 2022 after Recess. On the same day, parents / carers will be informed via a class placement letter along with their child’s end of year report.

End of Year Reports

At this time of the term, teachers spend many hours writing student reports. As part of the reporting process, teachers work with year level team colleagues to moderate and discuss student assessments to ensure consistency of teacher judgement when reporting A-E grades for subject areas within the Australian Curriculum. Reports will be handed out on Wednesday 8th December.

Last Week’s Wrap – M and S Polling Letter

If needed, please check in with last week’s wrap which included information re Material and Services Charges – Polling Letter, which families should have received in the mail last week. Please return the tear-off slip to indicate your approval by no later than Monday 22nd November. Thank you.

Friendly Reminders

  • Leaving Craigburn in 2022? Aside from Year 6 and 7 students graduating at the end of this year – if your child will not be returning to Craigburn Primary School in 2022, please inform the front office. This will help us with our forward planning for the 2022 school year. Thank you.
  • School opens at 8.30am – students should not be on school grounds prior to this time unless supervised by a parent / caregiver. Similarly, after school, students should not be staying on grounds after school unless accompanied by an adult (and including sports practice).
