The Weekly Wrap – Term 1 Week 9 – 2022

We trust all families are keeping safe and well. We extend our positive thoughts and best wishes to families who are currently being affected by COVID.

Best wishes for the week ahead. Regards – Paul, Rob and Nicky

Deputy Principal Position

I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Rob Warncken who has been appointed to the Coromandel Valley Primary School Principal position, commencing at the start of Term 2.

Rob is an experienced school leader who has been both Deputy Principal and Senior Leader at Craigburn since 2015. Rob has provided excellent leadership and support to students, staff and families over this period of time and with this depth of experience, he is well prepared to take up the role of Principal.

I’m sure you will all join in with me to thank Rob for his service and leadership at Craigburn and to wish him all the very best in his role as Principal at Coromandel Valley. We look forward formally thanking Rob for his service and farewelling him near the end of the term.

The Deputy position will be advertised externally later in the school year. In the interim, the position will be filled internally, with an announcement to be made prior to the start of next term.

COVID-19 Update

As is the case in many schools, we are continuing to be impacted by positive COVID cases, with students, staff and families being affected.

COVID safe measures for schools continue to be reviewed on a regular basis with SA Health.

Whilst the Department had previously flagged some potential easing of restrictions from the start of Week 9 (Monday 27 March), their recommendation to schools is to maintain existing settings for the remainder of the term due to the current situation.

Swimming Week – Cancelled

As shared to families via email / news post on Friday afternoon, we made the difficult decision to cancel this week’s swimming program for students in Years 3-5.

With the escalation of COVID cases occurring across schools, the Department has advised schools to cancel non-essential events, particularly those where students and staff are gathered in shared indoor public spaces.

In assessing the risk of students, staff and volunteer parents attending the indoor public swimming centre where other schools will be attending, we made the call to cancel our attendance in the best interest of our school community.

We again apologise for the short notice and any inconvenience, however the health and safety of our school community is a priority.

Please note, the Year 6 Aquatics program and District Athletics Carnival will still proceed as these are outdoor events.

We will be looking to reschedule the Year 3-5 swimming program at a later date (to be advised) and will be reviewing the Reception – Year 2 swimming program to determine if this will proceed early next term – pending the COVID situation.

Staffing

As the end of Term 1 is fast approaching, I would like to congratulate and thank all staff at Craigburn, for their continued commitment to our students’ learning and wellbeing.

The current COVID situation is impacting on school staffing, where a number of staff are in quarantine or isolation due to being a close contact.

A shortage of relieving teachers has also presented challenges for us to navigate our way through the remaining weeks of the term. We commend our students for their positive attitude towards new teachers through their display of respectful behaviours.

Reporting Positive Cases

It would be appreciated if you could provide us with the following information when informing us of a positive case.

  • Name of your child.
  • Date of the positive test and the type of test taken –  RAT, PCR or both.
  • Last day your child attended school / OSHC.

Parent notification of classroom contacts

As per Department advice, in the event of a positive case/s occurring, instead of notifying families of each individual case of COVID, we will now post a single daily notification at the end of the school day that lists the classes / rooms affected by COVID cases. This will help reduce the number of notifications to families.

Student-led Conferences

Student-led conferences will still proceed as scheduled in school weeks 10 and 11, from Monday 4 – Monday 11 April.

However, again due to the increasing number of COVID cases in schools, the Department’s advice is to minimise the risk of exposure, therefore the conferences will now be conducted remotely.

Existing bookings will remain as per the online school interviews booking system.

This week, class teachers will provide updated information. This will include online links using Microsoft Team, and how to prepare for a remote (home / school) conference. We understand that not all families may have the required equipment and / or internet access for an online conference. If this is the case, teachers will organise an alternative means of communication (eg, a group phone call).

Most importantly, and in consideration to the start of the year we have experienced, the conferences will provide a valuable opportunity for students, teachers and families to connect with each other.

 To Note

  • Congratulations to our Reception teacher, Sonia Caruso, who celebrated her wedding on Saturday.
  • Congratulations and well done to our senior cricket team who defeated close rivals Flagstaff Hill PS on Friday afternoon as part of the Sapsasa Cricket Knockout series. The game was evenly contested and played in good spirit with Craigburn the eventual winners by a close 10 run margin.
  • Best wishes to the Year 4 -6 students representing Craigburn at the District Athletics Carnival on Wednesday.

SRC Update – Mrs Taylor

Our students have been busy preparing their applications and speeches for the election of this year’s Student Representative Council (SRC).

Congratulations to all students who have applied for SRC. Your dedication and passion to represent your fellow class members is commendable.

Many classes have completed the process of electing their SRC members. Successful applicants will be announced and formally acknowledged in coming weeks.

Harmony Day

Throughout the last week many classes have been participating in many Harmony Day activities, embracing our cultural dversity.

Thank you to the families who have sent through their recipes for our Craigburn’s Cultural Cuisine Cookbook. Please keep the recipes coming in as we only have received a small number.

Say thanks with a ThankED note

Students, staff and the community are able to send messages of thanks through the ThankED program to those who have made a difference.

ThankED gives you the chance to celebrate and thank public educators who make a difference every day, as well as those people who work in support of them.

Feel free to submit a message of thanks to someone who has made a difference to your child/ren and family.
