The Weekly Wrap – Term 1 Week 11 – 2022

As the term draws to a close, we would like to thank all Craigburn families for your continued support throughout what has been a most challenging term.

The staff at Craigburn are grateful for your support in keeping children home when unwell. Some families have been more directly impacted by COVID than others, and we expect the virus to continue impacting our school community into the first part of next term. Our thoughts are with those families currently affected – get well soon.

We would also like to thank families for your understanding as some school activities were not able to proceed as planned – based on the advice and directives from the Department and SA Health.  The decision to cancel the year 3-5 swimming at short notice was particularly challenging, as was the case with the student-led conferences, where we were directed to cease after-hours teaching commitments for the remainder of the term.

Our teaching and support staff are to be commended for their efforts and commitment in ensuring teaching and learning programs have operated as normal as possible. However, some classes have been more affected than others, with staff absences due to COVID. We are grateful to have a core group of excellent relieving teachers who have been available to backfill these absences.

We hope students, staff and families look forward to a restful Easter break.

Kind regards – Paul, Rob and Nicky

Annual General Meeting

We have held off holding our Annual General Meeting (AGM) this term, due to not being able to conduct the meeting with face-to-face attendance. In meeting recently with our current Governing Council, the meeting has now been scheduled for the evening of Tuesday 17 May.

The AGM is held to share with our community the progress and achievements from the previous school year as well as sharing over our improvement plans moving forward.

The meeting also provides the opportunity for the election of new members to the Governing Council and various subcommittees.

Further information regarding the AGM will be posted early next term.

Staffing Update

As you know Rob Warncken will be leaving us at the end of the term to take up the position of Principal of Coromandel Valley Primary School. We look forward to saying farewell to Rob this week with a special staff farewell and the whole school assembly. Feel free to drop by the office to extend your thanks and best wishes to Rob.

The process to appoint a deputy principal for the remainder of 2022 is currently underway.

From Rob

As you are probably aware via previous communications, I have been fortunate to have been appointed to the Coromandel Valley Primary School Principal position, commencing at the start of next term.

It is with a sense of sadness I say goodbye to the many people I have had the privilege of meeting and working with over the past seven years at Craigburn.

From my very first day I was welcomed by the warmth and openness of this community. It has been a privilege to work here with such wonderful students and caring families.

Thank you to the dedicated and professional staff I have had the opportunity to work with, in particular to my leadership team of Paul and Nicky. Thank you for your guidance, support and excellent leadership over the last few years. It has been fantastic working with both of you.

Thank you all for your ongoing support and cooperation. I will miss the wonderful people I have met over the past seven years and will always treasure the many fond memories of the students, parents, family members, and staff.

I will miss Craigburn, this is a great community and I have appreciated my time here. I wish every family all the best and hope that every student continues to enjoy the exciting educational opportunities provided by the school.

Thank you, Rob Warncken.

Dates to Remember

Student Free Day – First Day back of Term 2, Monday 2 May. Staff will be undertaking professional learning using the department’s new curriculum resources / documents. OSHC is open for bookings.

Overdue Library Books

We currently have over 40 books still not returned from last year. Please ask your child/ren to see if there are any books that have inadvertently been misplaced.

Facilities Projects

Playground Markings

Over the holiday break and early next term, we look forward to a number of specialised playground markings to be installed,  including a giant chessboard and snakes and ladders game. These markings are a result of funds raised by students and families over the last 12 months including gala day and last year’s colour fun run.

Gym Toilets Painting

The gym toilets will be painted over the holiday period or shortly after.
