What a week it has been so far!
Finally, the power has now been restored to school and we are looking forward to seeing everyone back at school and resuming our learning program.
Thank you for your understanding in managing the school closures over the last 2 days. We recognise that this may have caused challenges for your family and children and we have appreciated your patience and support over this time.
We hope that families who were impacted by the storm are safe and well, and have avoided any serious property damage.
40th Birthday Celebration Week
It was unfortunate that we had to postpone our open evening (Tuesday 15/11). We are looking to reschedule at a later date – to be advised.
A reminder that we will be having a whole-school photograph taken on Thursday morning and ask that all students are neatly dressed in school uniform. Many whole-school photographs are proudly displayed in the school and are popular with students who love to view them. This week, students will receive a commemorative pin to wear for the remainder of the year. A whole school assembly will be held on Thursday with one of Craigburn’s first staff members as guest speaker. A celebration birthday cake will be cut to mark our 40th birthday, with students receiving a commemorative cookie.
A reminder also that a school disco is set for Friday late afternoon / evening. The theme is ‘Party through the decades.’ Flyers containing information were sent home with students last week. If you would like to assist as a volunteer, please contact Bec May (Friends of Craigburn) via email rebeccamay35@hotmail.com or mobile 0423202283 or the front office. Reception students will have their disco at lunchtime in the Library (no charge), supervised by teachers and volunteer parents. Details and ticket prices / purchasing can be viewed here.
Reception Transition Visits
This Wednesday we welcome new Reception children and families, for their first of three transition visits, in preparation for starting school next year.
Material and Services Charges – Polling Letter
Early this week, you will receive a Materials and Services Charges Polling Letter. As you will read in the polling letter, the Craigburn Primary School governing council has approved the materials and services charge for 2023 to the amount of $450 – the first increase ($10) since 2019.
The Materials and Services (M and S) Charge contributes to the cost of providing essential items and services used or consumed by individual students during the course of their learning. This includes printed and electronic materials, access to books, stationery supplies, curriculum materials, printing and copying for use in the educational program, library and information technology resources.
Please note, the M and S Charge also covers the cost of whole- school incursions, including Footsteps, Book Week and Music performances to the approximate value of $40.
The governing council believes the M and S Charge for 2023 at $450 per student represents great value at roughly $11 per student / school week.
As the proposed materials and services charge of $450 is greater than the legislated prescribed amount of $269 for a primary student, as referenced in the Education and Children’s Services Act, the Governing Council is required to undertake a poll to gain majority support from the school community for this proposed charge to be compulsory, and therefore recoverable in full.
The governing council therefore seeks your support for the proposed 2023 Materials and Services Charge of $450 to be compulsory.
If the majority of parents support the governing council’s proposal that the materials and services charge be compulsory then all parents, caregivers (excluding approved School Card holders) are liable for this charge.
Each family is entitled to one vote per student per poll, with a majority based on the number of respondents.
If you have any questions, please contact Paul Luke (Principal) or myself – via the front office.

Class Structure / Student Placement for 2023
We are currently determining our class structure for 2023 and are set to begin the class placement process in preparation for the new school year. Please refer to the recent post, Parent Information – Class Structure and Student Placement for 2023 for more information regarding this process.
Reminder Student Free Day
A reminder that Friday 25 November is a Student Free Day. Staff will be undertaking a review of our learning improvement plans and engaged in planning for 2023. OSHC will be available for bookings.
ICAS Assessments
We’ve been receiving enquiries regarding ICAS assessment results and certificates. We have been informed from ICAS that there is a delay in certificates being sent to schools. Once we have received all the certificates we present our students with their certificates at a whole school assembly.
