The Weekly Wrap – Term 2 Week 7 – 2023

Dear families and friends, I hope everyone enjoyed some quality family time over the long weekend. It was great to return to school last week two weeks leave which included a very enjoyable and enlightening trip to Vietnam. I would like to extend my gratitude and thanks to Nicky for acting in the Principal role in my absence.

Thank you for taking the time to read through the items below and best wishes to all for the week ahead. Stay safe and dry.

Kind regards, Paul

Go Crew’sers

Best wishes to the Craigburn Crew’sers who compete at Victoria Park this coming Sunday, 18 June, as part of the 2023 Australian HPV Super Series. It’s rewarding to see the continued high level of interest in Pedal Prix with students at Craigburn.  Thank you again to Mr Fergusson, parents and friends for supporting our teams. Live race results can be accessed here.

A big shout out and thanks to VALIO and Jacobs Tyres and More for their generous sponsorship of our Pedal Prix teams.

Winter – Wellness – Wet Weather

As we embrace the winter season, we are reminded of the challenges it brings with cold and flu ailments. To minimise the spread of illnesses, we kindly ask that you keep your child home if they are unwell, and until they are well and symptom-free.

We understand that sometimes children may fall ill during the school day. In such instances, we will promptly contact parents / carers to arrange for their child to be collected. We appreciate your understanding and support if and when this happens.

Looking ahead, the weather forecast indicates that the week will be another wet one. During rainy days, our access to the oval for outdoor play at recess and lunch is often restricted. As a result, more students gather on hard play areas and around buildings. To ensure everyone’s safety, we continuously remind students about practising safe and responsible play during these times.

Please remember to notify us when your child is absent. This can be done in a number of ways:

Staff Illness / Relief Teachers

At this time of the term and year, staff (and their family members) can and do fall ill, requiring them to take sick / family carer’s leave. Similarly, teachers may be involved in extracurricular activities and professional development workshops where their class teaching role needs to be back-filled by a relief teacher.

On these occasions, we do our best to employ relief teachers who know our students and school well. However, there is a critical shortage of relief teachers in Adelaide and South Australia (and across the country), presenting ongoing staffing challenges for our schools.

We would though, like to commend our students who understand the importance of positive learning behaviours when their teachers are absent from school and relief teachers are employed. Most often, the feedback we receive from relief teachers is complimentary of our students and their behaviour.

National survey – have your say on the future of education

You can have your say on a range of issues including:

  • improving education outcomes
  • supporting student health and wellbeing
  • supporting and retaining teachers.

The survey closes on Friday 23 June 2023 (week 8, term 2)

Your feedback will be considered as part of an Expert Panel Review into the next NSRA.

Winter Sports

Winter sports competitions are well underway with many students enjoying their participation. We would like to acknowledge and thank parents who are coaching and managing teams this year, as without this level of support we would be unable to field teams.

School Netball Results

Year 2/3 Coaches Jo and Kimberley

The girls are improving week-to-week as they get to know the game, rules and positions. They have all been trying their best and working well together. All the girls were so excited last week to get a goal right on the final buzzer!

Year 3/4 Coach Shelley

Yet another close game where we were well matched with skill. The girls played really well and have been focussing on quick passes and staying in front of their players. Well done girls!

Year 5/6 Coach Liann

It was a warm beautiful winter’s morning, we wish we could have saved this undercover court for a raining day.

The girls came through with their second win in a game played in high spirit and enjoyment. Each player had a turn in goals with everyone shooting at least 1 – excellent effort.

Reception Enrolments for 2024

As we are nearing the midpoint of the school year, we are starting to look at our Reception Enrolments for 2024.

If you are a new family to Craigburn and would like to register interest for a child starting Reception in 2024, please contact the Front Office for a Registration of Interest form.

First round offers of enrolment will be sent out early next term.

Friendly Reminders

Afternoon Traffic

We would like to commend and thank families for adhering to local traffic and parking regulations during afternoon pick up at the kiss and drop zone off Murrays Hill Rd. Please remember to:

  • refrain from stopping and waiting on Murrays Hill Rd, nor to the entrance of the zone – as this causes congestion and a bank up of traffic.
  • continue through the zone if you are unable to manage a short term park to collect your child/ren
  • contact the front office if you are running late beyond 3.30pm when school staff finish their duty – your child/ren will be taken to the front office and will wait to be collected.

Please also note that council rangers visit schools unexpectedly.

Moving School in 2024?

To support our staff and class planning for 2024, should your child/ren be leaving Craigburn Primary School (aside from current Year 6s) to attend another school next year, please notify us via the front office. Thank you.

To help us keep up to date with family and emergency contact details please contact the front office with any change of contact details.
