It’s just less than 2 weeks away until our ‘School Run4Fun Colour Splatacular’ event on Friday 3rd November from 1.30pm to 3.00pm on the Craigburn PS school oval.
So far, we have raised just over $5000 towards an outdoor kitchen for our school garden. Let’s hit that $10000 mark before the day. All funds raised will go towards an outdoor kitchen for our wonderful school garden. Preliminary designs are currently being drafted – sample images below.
What time will the run take place and how long will it take?
12:00 – 12.30pm – Early Lunch
1.00 – 1.30pm – Year 5 / 6 classes
1.40 – 2.10pm – Year 2 / 3 / 4 classes
2.20 – 2.50pm – Reception to Year 1 classes
3.10pm – Normal School Dismissal – unless parent/carer signs child out earlier
Each age group will run for 30 minutes. The afternoon will be run by our parent helpers, teachers, leaders and student leaders.
What should students wear?
A white T-shirt is best for a colour run. Old shorts, socks, and shoes are also a good idea as they may get colour powder and slime on them as well. Bathers or other tops can be worn under the white T shirt if preferred. Students can come to school dressed in their running gear, ready to go. An old towel and change of clothes may also be worth bringing on the day.
The Coromandel Valley CFS volunteers will also be attending with one of their trucks in one area of the run so students may choose (they can dodge this section) to get wet as they run the course. Water is important to help set the colour on the shirts. Students are not expected to have their school hat on during the run however, students can wear an old hat if they choose. We encourage students to bring their own sunscreen protection to apply on the day.
To preserve the colour on your COLOUR RUN t-shirt after the event, try soaking it in a mixture of water, salt, and vinegar. This helps the colour lock into the cotton and prevents the colour running.
Is it too late to start or continue to fundraise?
Definitely not! Fundraising can take place right up until our Run4Fun day. Please revisit our earlier post for details on how to create a fundraising profile. Please contact the front office if you need support.
Can all children participate?
This event is the major fundraiser for our school so we encourage all children to participate in fundraising. However, even if children are unable to raise funds for the event they are still welcome to participate.
Parent / Carer Consent
Please complete and return the attached consent form and return to your class teacher to consent to your child’s participation. Printed copies will be provided to students to take home.
What if my child needs to opt out?
If children wish to not be squirted with colour, due to concerns of asthma or allergies or any other reason, they can bypass the colour stations and will not be squirted. Children who do not wish to be squirted may also choose to wear a bright coloured T shirt (instead of a white one) as a way to still be colourful on the day and to signal that they do not wish to be in contact with the powder or slime.
Is the colour safe?
The colour powder and slime used in our event has been sourced directly from India, the home of Holi Powder. It is made of high quality corn starch and permitted food colours. It’s non-toxic, biodegradable, skin safe and environmentally friendly.
Toxicological Risk Assessment and ingredient listings can be obtained from the front office upon request. If you have any concerns at all about safety, children are welcome to wear swimming goggles or wear the sunglasses provided as eye protection and/or bandanas or scarves around their noses and mouths. If you have specific concerns about your child and their health needs, please talk to your child’s teacher.
How far do children have to run?
The run will lap around the school oval including a series of obstacles which may include: climbing, crawling, jumping, sliding, balancing, dodging, and more! The colour stations will be spread throughout the course so that children get multiple squirts of colour. Students can complete as many laps as they choose within the set time.
Can families come to watch the event?
Yes, we would love to have parents and families come out to watch the event!
Parent Helpers
We would be grateful for parents to help out prior to the event and / or on the day to assist with organisation and squirting the coloured powder and slime (on the day). Students love seeing their parents get involved and parents will have the opportunity to squirt and slime their class teachers, staff members and principals!!!
If you can help out, please notify us as soon as possible via the attached link or by contacting the front office.
What is the plan for bad weather?
If there is bad weather on the day of the event, the School Run4Fun Colour Splatacular will be postponed to another suitable date. Based on the weather forecast, a decision will be made on the day before the event and communicated to families.
