We are absolutely thrilled to share the incredible success of our recent Run4Fun Colour Splatacular fundraiser!
First and foremost, a massive shoutout goes to our dedicated parent volunteers who organised the event and helped out on the day, ensuring it was a resounding success. We’re grateful for their efforts.
We also want to extend our sincere thanks to all the students and families who donated and supported our major school fundraiser for the year. Your collective support will help us further transform our school garden with the addition of an outdoor kitchen.
If you missed out on raising funds, the fundraising portal remains open up until Thursday 9th November. Click here for details. Stay tuned for further details regrading the distribution of prizes for the fundraising efforts.
A special mention also goes out to the local community volunteers from the Coromandel Valley CFS (Country Fire Service), who provided a much-needed source of water to be sprayed on our colourful runners, adding an extra splash of fun to the event! Their support helped ensure that the event was a safe and enjoyable experience for all.
Thank you again to families and friends for your support and contributions!

The Week Ahead
Industrial Action
We want to keep you informed about potential industrial action at our site on Thursday, 9th November. As you may be aware, the Australian Education Union – SA Branch (AEU) has advised that its members have voted to undertake industrial action on Thursday 9 November in the form of a full day strike.
On Monday late afternoon, we will receive confirmation from our Education Director, as to whether our site will:
- remain open and operate as usual,
- remain open with a modified program in place,
- or close.
This will be determined by the number of staff members intending to be onsite on Thursday 9th November.
We will notify families via email regarding our school’s position for the day, including the provision for OSHC if required.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation during this uncertain period.
Year 6 Campers
Best wishes to our graduating 6 students who are looking forward to an enjoyable camp at the Woodhouse Activity Centre, from Monday to Wednesday this week.
Mayor’s Garden Competition
Good luck to Emily, our amazing school garden educator, who will attend the Mayor’s Garden Competition announcement at the City of Onkaparinga on Monday evening. Regardless of our placing in the competition, we are grateful to have a vibrant school garden led by Emily and students.
Student Disco – Friday 10th November – Week 4
Craigburn’s final student disco for the year will be held this Friday 10th November. The theme is ‘Dress in Your Favourite Colour.’ Flyers containing information were sent home with students last week. If you would like to assist as a volunteer, please contact Bec May (Friends of Craigburn) via email CPS.FOC466@schools.sa.edu.au or contact the front office.
Commissioner’s Digital Challenge
Craigburn has again finished in the top placings in this year’s Commissioner’s Digital Challenge. Congratulations, well done and thank you to specialist German and Digital Technologies teacher, Carly Smith, for entering students in the competition.
“We practised German direction words by writing and testing code to move our BeeBots around the mat. We also designed an ‘offline’ Kodable maze and gave German directions for our Fuzz to earn 3 stars!”
New Cricket Pitch
We have been successful in our grant application to the South Australian Cricket Association for a new synthetic cricket wicket, due to be installed over the final weeks of the school year.
Material and Services Charges – Polling Letter
Early this week, you will receive a Materials and Services Charges Polling Letter. As you will read in the polling letter, the Craigburn Primary School Governing Council has approved the Materials and Services Charge for 2024 to the amount of $460.
The Materials and Services (M and S) Charge contributes to the cost of providing essential items and services used or consumed by individual students during the course of their learning. This includes printed and electronic materials, access to books, stationery supplies, curriculum materials, printing and copying for use in the educational program, library and information technology resources.
Please note, the M and S Charge also covers the cost of whole- school incursions, including Footsteps, Book Week and Music performances to the approximate value of $40.
The Governing Council believes the M and S Charge for 2024 at $460 per student represents great value at approximately $11 per student / school week.
As the proposed materials and services charge of $460 is greater than the legislated prescribed amount of $287 for a primary student, as referenced in the Education and Children’s Services Act, the Governing Council is required to undertake a poll to gain majority support from the school community for this proposed charge to be compulsory, and therefore recoverable in full.
The governing council therefore seeks your support for the proposed 2024 Materials and Services Charge of $460 to be compulsory.
If the majority of parents support the Governing Council’s proposal that the Materials and Services Charge be compulsory then all parents, carers (excluding approved School Card holders) are liable for this charge.
Each family is entitled to one vote per student per poll, with a majority based on the number of respondents.
If you have any questions, please contact Paul Luke (Principal) or myself – via the front office.
Katelyn Adams – Governing Council Chairperson
