Royal Adelaide Show Success

Our Environment Leaders Win First Place for Seasonal Vegetables

We are thrilled to announce that our talented Environment Leaders have claimed First Place in the Seasonal Vegetables competition at the Royal Adelaide Show. This incredible achievement is a testament to their hard work, dedication, and passion for sustainable gardening.

Our young leaders have spent months nurturing their garden, learning valuable skills in planting, harvesting, and caring for seasonal produce. A special thank you goes to Emily, our dedicated school garden educator, whose guidance and leadership have played a crucial role in this success.  We couldn’t be prouder of our students for this wonderful accomplishment.

Scarecrow Creativity

Congratulations and well done to Layla, Emily, Isra and Ella on their excellent creation of Fantastic Mr Fox.

Best Wishes to Our School Choir for Friday Night

We are excited for our school choir, led by the Mr Marin, as they prepare to perform at the Festival of Music this Friday night at the Festival Theatre. This is such a special opportunity, and we know they’ve been working incredibly hard rehearsing for their big performance. To all our talented singers, we’re so proud of your dedication and effort, and sure you will all shine on stage on Friday night. Good luck and best wishes for an enjoyable performance.

Celebrating Emilie’s Success in STEM

Earlier this year, we shared news about the Australian Science and Mathematics School’s short course extension program. We’re thrilled to announce that Emilie, one of our Year 5 students, took part in this fantastic opportunity!

Emilie, along with her dad Nathan, embarked on a project titled “Why do piano notes sound different?” as part of the program’s theme, Decoding the World with Mathematics. Over the past few months, she has explored how pianos work, the science of frequency and vibrations, and even learned how to use MATLAB to create her graphs.

This project has given Emilie a great chance to build her research and computing skills while diving deep into a fascinating topic.

Emilie recently left school early to present her project at an afternoon session at Flinders University where she confidently shared her findings, answered questions, and showcased her impressive work. Congratulations, Emilie – we’re proud of your efforts and achievements!

SRC Executive Leaders

Last week, our Year 6 SRC Executive Leaders organised a Special Person Day craft lunchtime activity, which was a huge success. Over 40 enthusiastic students attended, each eager to showcase their creativity. The lunchtime session buzzed with vibrant energy as students crafted heartfelt cards for their special person. These lunchtime activities play a crucial role in fostering creativity, social interaction, and a sense of community among students. The event allowed students to express their artistic talents and highlighted the strong community spirit within our school. Congratulations to the Year 6 SRC for their outstanding effort and leadership!

Year 1 Phonics Screening Check Results

Our Year 1 teachers have now completed the Department’s phonics screening check (PSC). The results indicate strong achievement across our year 1 cohort and the highest since the inception of the PSC in 2018 – with 100% of students achieving at or above the benchmark. We would very much like to acknowledge the efforts of our Year 1 and Reception teachers for this excellent achievement.

Thank You for a Fantastic Netball Season!

As we wrap up another incredible netball season,  we would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who contributed to making it such a success. Our players have grown immensely in their skills and teamwork and love of the game. A special shout-out to each and every girl who represented Craigburn – well done.

To our parents who coached the teams – Annika, Karen, Emma, Sarah and Samantha, your support has been nothing short of amazing – thank you.

And a huge thank you to Kimmy, our fantastic netball coordinator, for her dedication and hard work in ensuring the season ran smoothly. Without Kimmy’s dedication and support, the season would not have gone ahead.

Progressive Achievement Tests (PAT)

Currently, our Year 2-6 students are undertaking the annual Progressive Achievement Tests (PAT) in Reading and Maths. PAT-M (Maths) and PAT-R (Reading) are mandatory tests for students in years 3 – 10 in SA government schools. The tests are online reading comprehension and maths assessments aligned to the Australian Curriculum. The tests are administered each year and provide teachers with information about the learning strengths and needs of their students.

PAT-M (Maths)

PAT-M tests have up to 40 multiple-choice questions. There is no audio component in any PAT-M test.

Each PAT-M test includes Australian Curriculum content across multiple year levels. For example, PAT-M test 4 includes content from years 2 to 5.

The tests assess the strands:

  • geometry
  • measurement
  • number
  • probability (from test 4)
  • statistics.

PAT-R (Reading)

PAT-R tests 2 to 10 have up to 35 questions.Students need to either:

Each PAT-R test includes Australian Curriculum content across multiple year levels. For example, PAT-R test 4 includes content from years 1 to 5.

The tests assess the strands:

  • interpreting explicit information (IE)
  • interpreting implied information (II)
  • reflecting on text (RF)
  • retrieving directly stated information (RI).

From the eSafety Commissioner

Feeling overwhelmed by the online world your child is growing up in? You’re not alone. Whether your child is starting to explore the internet or is already a tech-savvy teen, it’s natural to worry about who they’re connecting with online and whether they’re safe. Just like you wouldn’t let your child dive into a pool without first teaching them how to swim, it’s important to teach them about online safety before they’re in too deep.

Today, we’re highlighting our new resources specifically designed to help address the growing concern of child sexual abuse online. Here’s some steps you can take to protect your child:

  • Understand the risks – Start by getting informed. Learn about the potential dangers and how to talk to your child about them in a way that’s age-appropriate.
  • Use our new resources – We know this topic can be difficult to navigate, so we’ve developed new resources to help. Our tools guide you through key actions, like discussing who your child connects with online and staying aware of how they use their devices. You’ll find practical tips, videos and conversation starters to make these conversations easier.
