Year 3 Basketball Showdown!
On Tuesday afternoon, our Year 3 basketball teams faced off in an exciting showdown! Both teams played with determination and team spirit, creating a fun and friendly competition. The yellow team (wearing blue bibs) took the win by 15 points, but each player showcased their skills and hard work on the court. Congratulations to all players—everyone should be proud of their effort and sportsmanship.
Remaining Student Free Day – Monday 25 November
A reminder that our remaining student free day for 2024 is in Term 4 Week 7 on Monday 25 November, endorsed by our Governing Council earlier this year. On this day, school staff will be working exploring the Department’s Public Education Strategy and also analysing a range of student learning data to inform future planning and learning for the 2025 school year. OSHC will be available for bookings.
Save the Date – Celebration Night – Monday 9 December
We are very much looking forward to our annual Celebration Night on Monday 9 December, when our community comes together to enjoy song and dance performances from students / staff, and including end of year presentations, x-mas raffle and farewells. Please save the date, and stay tuned for further details.
Last Day of the School Year – Friday 13 December – Early Dismissal – 2.10pm
As per the department’s policy regarding early dismissals, schools are only able to dismiss students up to one hour prior to normal dismissal. This means that on our last school day of the year, Friday 13 December, students will be dismissed at 2.10pm.
New Receptions
A warm welcome to all the new children and families joining us for their first of three transition visits this Wednesday. We look forward to meeting and getting to know many new families and making the transition a smooth, enjoyable and memorable experience.
Year 6 Campers – Fun at EL Shaddai
Our Craigburn Year 6 students participated in their final primary school camp last week from Monday to Wednesday at the El Shaddai campsite in Wellington.
The students had a fantastic time participating in team and confidence building activities such as Laser tag, Earth ball, Canoeing, Raft building, Swimming, Giant swing, Archery and Rock climbing. Other highlights included a night walk to the Wellington Ferry where they bumped into a famous AFL Player, and a Quiz night where one team correctly identified the flag of Macau!
“I enjoyed the big swing because you drop so fast and it was good to challenge yourself,” Maddy M
“My favourite thing was laser tag because we worked as a team and we beat the boys,” Charlee P
“My favourite thing was laser tag because the teams were evenly matched and we had to work out ways to win together,” Trai A
“I enjoyed the swimming pool because we played water polo which was new for me and it was really fun,” Jacob G
A big thank you goes out to Kate, Susan and Belinda who came along as parent supporters as well as Mr Lemmey, Mrs Pettman and Mr Buhagiar for organising the camp.
Also a big thank you to the camp organisers at El Shaddai who ran excellent activities for us and kept us extremely well fed!

Quiz Night Recap: A Star-Studded Success
On Saturday night Craigburn hosted a dazzling evening as parents, school staff and friends came together for our ‘Night at the Movies’ themed Quiz Night. It was a night of fun, trivia, and community spirit with everyone dressed in movie character costumes.
We are truly grateful to our amazing school community for their generous contributions. Thanks to donations of goods, services, and vouchers from local businesses, families, and friends, our silent auction and prize rounds were a tremendous success.
A huge thank you to everyone who attended, donated, and contributed in any way—your generosity will contribute to refurbishing our library shelving systems, creating a more inviting and organised space for students to explore and enjoy reading.
The success of the night is a testament to the amazing Friends of Craigburn team who organised the event. Thank you.
End of Year Reports
At this time of the term, teachers are writing end of year student reports. As part of the reporting process, teachers work with year level team colleagues to moderate and discuss student assessments to ensure consistency of teacher judgement when reporting A-E grades (Years 1 -6) for subject areas within the Australian Curriculum. Reports will be handed out on Wednesday 11 December.
Friendly Reminders
Class Structure and Placement for 2025
As shared previously, we are currently determining our class structure for 2025 and are set to begin the class placement process in preparation for the new school year. The class placement process is a complex and time-consuming one, involving multiple factors. Students will be informed of their class placement on Wednesday 11 December, when they visit their new class for 2025 after Recess. On the same day, parents / carers will be informed via a class placement letter along with their child’s end of year report. Please refer to the recent post, Class Planning and Placement Information for 2025 for more information regarding this process.
Material and Services Charges – Polling Letter
Last week, you should have received via email a Materials and Services Charges Polling Letter. As you will read in the polling letter, the Craigburn Primary School Governing Council has approved the Materials and Services Charge for 2025 to the amount of $460 – the same Charge as this year.
The Materials and Services (M and S) Charge contributes to the cost of providing essential items and services used or consumed by individual students during the course of their learning. This includes printed and electronic materials, access to books, stationery supplies, curriculum materials, printing and copying for use in the educational program, library and information technology resources.
Please note, the M and S Charge also covers the cost of whole- school incursions, including Footsteps, Book Week and Music performances to the approximate value of $40.
As announced in the 2024-25 State Budget, the Materials and Services Charge rebate for the 2025 school year has increased to $200 per student.
The Governing Council believes the M and S Charge for 2025 at $460 per student represents great value at approximately $11 per student / school week.
As the proposed materials and services charge of $460 is greater than the legislated prescribed amount of $300 for a primary student, as referenced in the Education and Children’s Services Act, the Governing Council is required to undertake a poll to gain majority support from the school community for this proposed charge to be compulsory, and therefore recoverable in full.
The governing council therefore seeks your support for the proposed 2025 Materials and Services Charge of $460 to be compulsory.
If the majority of parents support the Governing Council’s proposal that the Materials and Services Charge be compulsory then all parents, carers (excluding approved School Card holders) are liable for this charge.
Each family is entitled to one vote per student per poll, with a majority based on the number of respondents.
If you have any questions, please contact Clare Aikens (Business Manager), Paul Luke (Principal) or myself – via the front office.

Sun Safe / School Hats
As the UV index now reaches above 3 on most days, it is important that students:
- apply sunscreen before leaving home and pack extra (named) sunscreen for school
- have their sunsmart school hat with them. Students must wear a navy blue school hat (broad brimmed or legionnaire style) when outside in the yard at play times and outdoor lessons. Hats can be purchased via the Finance Office. Students who do not have a hat are asked to play in a shaded area of the school during play times.
Lost Property
Please come into school and check the lost property tubs near the second hand uniform shop. They are overflowing with jumpers, hats, lunchboxes and drink bottles.
Parent / Carer Contact Details
Please keep the school informed of any recent changes to your contact details. Thank you.
