Dear Students and Parents / Carers
Gala Day has been a long-standing tradition and much loved event at Craigburn for over 20 years where students in Years 3-6 have the opportunity to create and manage an enterprising stall (food, activity or craft) for students across all age groups to visit and interact, within a ‘market style’ environment.
Students who opt to create and manage a stall will learn and practise a range of important life skills such as creativity, collaboration, communication, and problem solving. They will also learn about advertising, marketing and monetising their product.
On the day, students get to visit a variety of stalls and spend a small amount of money to purchase and / or interact with the stallholder’s product. Much similar to visiting a stall at a weekend market or the Royal Adelaide Show.
Students can bring along loose change (coins), in a purse / wallet, to spend at the stalls. As a guide, we suggest up to $5 for younger students and up to $10 for older students works well.
All money raised by stall holders from Gala Day will go towards purchasing new board games for the library for students to use at lunchtime.

Information for Stall Holders – for Year 3-6 Students Only
Stall Nomination
- Only Year 3 – 6 students can nominate to run a Gala Day stall.
- Stalls are divided into three categories – food / activity-based / craft. Please see further on for specific details and examples.
- Not every student needs to be a staff holder – however, students are encouraged to work in groups of at least 2 or more to share the organisation and management of the stall.
- Students who wish to manage a stall, must apply via the nomination form (below), which must be completed and submitted by Thursday morning 21st November. Successful nominations will be notified the same day.
- ****Electrical appliances / equipment are not permitted to be used at school on the day.
Food Stalls
Stallholders providing food must follow these guidelines.
- Hygiene & Food Safety
- Please supervise all aspects of food preparation and ensure that correct hand washing and food preparation procedures are followed.
- Allergies
- Ensure that all ingredients are clearly labelled and displayed on the day. This requires a list to be prepared and placed on the stall display table. (e.g. a small chart).) As we are allergy aware, foods provided should not contain nuts.
- Healthy Eating
- We encourage stall providers to present healthy food options. (There are many great sites / fun recipes available by googling ‘Healthy Snacks For Kids.’ Please note food / drinks with high sugar content (eg lollies and soft drinks) will not be permitted.
- Storing Food
- Food can be brought to school in the morning or just prior to Gala Day commencing. (This would mean between 11.05 and 11.15am when the stalls are being set up.) This would allow the food to stay fresh (and cold/warm depending upon need). There will be no heating / cooling facilities available on the day. Providing an Esky to keep food cool may be necessary.
Activity and Craft based Stalls
- All equipment for activity and craft based stalls need to be prepared before the day.
- Safety – Stall holders must provide detailed information regarding their stall and ensure safety measures are in place.
- Here are some creative ideas for student-led activity and craft based stalls, keeping in mind the emphasis on exploring affordable, fun alternatives if offering prizes (no lollies):

- Provide materials for making custom keychains with beads, charms, and lanyards.
- Prizes could be unique keychain accessories or small trinkets.
- Book Swap and Storytelling Booth:
- Kids can bring gently-used books to swap with others.
- Prizes may include bookmarks, literary-themed stickers, or small notebooks.
- Puzzle Challenge Zone:

- Keep seating arrangements comfortable and safe, avoiding tripping hazards.
*****Remember, proper supervision, clear instructions, and age-appropriate activities are key to ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone at the activity and craft based stalls. Face painting, tattoos etc will not be permitted.
Prizes
Using lollies as prizes is not permitted. If choosing to offer prizes, stall operators need to look at other options. One idea is to visit a store like ‘Cheap As Chips’ or ‘Browse ‘n’ Save’ to see if inexpensive but fun items might be available. Alternatively, looking through your own toy box sometimes reveals some interesting items that are no longer valued.
Money spent on preparing a stall
Stall holders are encouraged to create their stall using their own resources. There will be no reimbursement of costs incurred to create a stall.
Advertising and promotion
Stall operators wishing to make a poster advertising their stall are able to display them on Friday 29/11.
Stall nomination process
Please complete and submit the stall nomination form and return to your class teacher by no later than Tuesday morning 26th November.
We look forward to a fun and successful Gala Day.
