We hope everyone had the chance to enjoy the beautiful sunny weather over the weekend, especially with some wet and wintry days forecast for the week ahead. Thanks for taking the time to read through this week’s wrap, with just two weeks to go before we reach the mid-year break.
One Tree Per Child – We’re In!
We’re excited to share that our school has been successful in joining the One Tree Per Child – Onkaparinga Partnership, an initiative that encourages young people to get involved in planting to support local habitat and greening efforts across the region.
Thanks to this partnership, we will have received 80 native plants, along with compostable cardboard plant guards and stakes. These were delivered last week by our Green Adelaide Education Officer, Kate Washington, who is also offering an educational talk on the habitat value of these plants for pollinators. It was wonderful to see Kate again who led our school’s garden program for a number of years before Emily. Kate will join us on the planting day – to be confirmed.
Our plant species will include a beautiful mix of local natives such as:
- Golden Wattle (Acacia pycnantha)
- Round-leaf Wattle (Acacia acinacea)
- Tall Oak-bush (Allocasuarina striata)
- Drooping Sheoak (Allocasuarina verticillata)
- Silver Banksia (Banksia marginata)
- Christmas Bush (Bursaria spinosa)
- Prickly Tea-tree (Leptospermum continentale)
- Heath Tea-tree (Leptospermum myrsinoides)
There’s also a creative twist. Schools can decorate the cardboard plant guards and enter the Best Painted Guard competition. Our students will be getting involved – and we’ll be submitting photos of their top designs.
This initiative is proudly supported by the City of Onkaparinga, Green Adelaide, Arborgreen, Trees For Life, and One Tree Per Child.
Special shout and thanks to our Young Environment Leaders and our school garden educator, Emily, for leading this initiative.

Mid-year Reports
As we approach the end of Term 2, it’s a timely opportunity to reflect on the learning and growth that has taken place over the semester. We are currently finalising the mid-year reporting cycle, with reports to be distributed to families via the Department’s Education Management System (EMS) on Wednesday 2nd July. Printed copies will be available on request.
This year, we have transitioned to a new reporting template through EMS. While the format may look slightly different, the report will contain the same key information as previous years regarding your child’s progress and achievement.
Student-Led Conferences – Term 3, Week 2
We are pleased to share that our student-led conferences will take place in Week 2 of Term 3. These conferences were originally scheduled for the end of Term 1 but were rescheduled to align with mid-year reporting and reflection. This timing provides students with a more complete opportunity to share their progress and learning from across the first half of the year.
Student-led conferences are a valuable opportunity for your child to take the lead in sharing their achievements, challenges, and goals with you and their teacher. With guidance and preparation from their teachers, students will present selected work and reflect on their learning journey so far.
Bookings will be made through the School Interviews online platform. Details on how to book your conference time will be shared next week.
We look forward to your engagement in this important part of your child’s learning.

News from our Student Representative Council (SRC)
Casual Clothes Day – Friday 5 June
To celebrate the end of Term 2, we’re holding a Casual Clothes Day on Friday, 4th July (Week 10), with all funds raised going to Guide Dogs South Australia, as chosen by student vote through the SRC. Students are encouraged to wear sun-smart casual clothes, bring a gold coin donation, and help support a cause that provides vital assistance to people with low vision or blindness. Further details here.
School Traffic Reminder
Please help keep our school community safe and traffic flowing by:
- Following local traffic and parking rules near the kiss and drop zone (Murrays Hill Rd and Heath Lane).
- Avoiding stopping or waiting on Murrays Hill Rd or at the zone entrance, as this causes congestion.
- Moving through the zone if a short-term park isn’t available.
- Contacting the front office if you’re delayed beyond 3:30pm—your child will wait at the front office after staff duty ends.
- Not entering the school grounds via the top gate near the water tank, as this area is not designated for parent / carer / visitor access.
Please note: Council rangers may visit at any time.
Weekend Netball Results
Year 2s
A thrilling and closely contested match was held between our Yr 2 girls and Happy Valley this weekend. The team made some great interceptions in the centre court and our accurate shots at goal secured their well-deserved win.
We were delighted to welcome a new player this week, who seamlessly slot into the team. Well done, Elise.
Year 2/3s
Had a bye this week.
Year 3/4s
We had a thrilling game against Belair on Saturday, with the score staying close all four quarters, but our girls pulled off a great 2-point win. A standout moment was Zoe scoring her first goal of the season, cheered on loudly by her teammates. The girls’ hard work at training is really showing, with their effort and skills shining on court. Well done on a fantastic game!
Year 5s
The Yr 5s worked hard in a thrilling, nail-biting draw 4-4 against St Johns. Their court movement, passing, and teamwork really reflected the hard work we’ve been putting in at training—especially getting the ball down the court with confidence and purpose. Massive congratulations girls!
Year 5/6s
A great 12–1 win this week against Flagstaff hill with a full team of 11 players for the first time this term! It was fantastic to see everyone enjoying the game, with players rotating through the popular goal positions and giving it their all. The team showed great energy and teamwork on court — it’s clear how much everyone is loving their netball and the team chant!
Year 6s
What a glorious sunny morning for the Y6 team to play a long awaited Home game against CLG Blue. The girls played well as a team but were pipped right at the end with a result of 10-11. We’re looking forward to the next game!
Friendly Reminders
ICAS Assessments
We encourage families to consider having their child participate in the ICAS Assessments for 2025. These optional, skills-based assessments provide students in Years 2–6 with a valuable opportunity to challenge themselves and showcase their abilities in subjects such as English, Mathematics, Science, Writing, and Spelling. ICAS is a great way to celebrate academic achievement and build confidence in a supportive environment. To learn more or register, please visit our recent post here.
Canteen Lunch Orders – Absentee Reminder
If your child is unwell and won’t be attending school, please notify the office if you have placed a lunch order for that day. We’re happy to help – if we’re informed on the day, your child’s lunch order can be held over and used on another suitable day. However, if no notification is received, the canteen is not automatically aware of your child’s absence. The order will be prepared, and unfortunately, cannot be carried over to another day as the meal will already have been made and stock used. We appreciate your support in helping us reduce food waste and manage canteen resources effectively. Thank you! The Canteen Team
