Narnu Farm Camp

This week our class joined the other Year 3 classes for a camp to Narnu Farm on Hindmarsh Island.

Narnu is a working farm and when you attend camp there you need to help with all of the jobs that usually happen on a farm.

Our classes were split into day groups of 8-9 children and we had sleeping/ night groups – some children slept in cottages and the ret were in the bunkhouse.

Each of our groups:

  • fed the animals – calves, chickens, goats, deer, rabbits, guinea pigs, roosters, peacocks, pigs, emus and baby lambs
  • milked Maisie the cow
  • learned how to ride a horse
  • learned how they used to plough the paddocks many years ago by hand ploughing
  • learned how to make butter
  • watched a blacksmith demonstration
  • watched a reptile talk
  • went on a vintage truck tour of the farm, plus we fed the horses as we drove around

We had an AMAZING time away – we loved all of the activities we did plus the extra games, free time and sports games that we could play. Our cottages and bunkhouse accommodation were really comfortable and all of the meals were delicious.

We really enjoyed working with all of the different staff on the farm and they taught us a lot about farm life, looking after the environment and how to care for animals.

Here are just ‘some’ of the photos taken on camp.

  1. It all looks fantastic. Jenny had a fabulous time and is very tired. My elder daughter is now begging me to go to Narnu in the next holidays! Thank you to all the staff and parents who went along. Sleep well.

  2. I think that the camp has been a wonderful experience for the children. Maisie was lucky enough to go to Narnu last year with her previous school. I would like to thank everyone who helped to organise and help out with the camp. I have heard only positive comments from Maisie and her friends. I wish I had been so lucky to go to camp when I was at school.

  3. Yes a big thanks to the teachers and parent volunteers for organising this fantastic experience for the kids.

My year 7 camp to the Flinders Rangers was an amazing experience. At night we hiked to the top of a hill, there were millions of stars. We had a campfire and listened to Aboriginal Dreaming stories and the teachers gave us glow sticks and we all danced around like crazy!

  4. I am sure Will won’t forget his first camp at school, he loved every moment of it and bounced back really quickly. Simon on the other hand said he ate too much at camp and needed more sleep than Will to recover. The horses were a hit!!!
Thanks for a fabulous camp Miss Sporn.

  5. I would never forget Narnu Farm. I loved the activities!

The fort, was cool! Sleeping over was also cool. What about the food? Yes! I liked it… but not really when it came to allergies. But I liked the ALTERNATIVE food.

I wish I can go to Narnu Farm again.
