Recently, S.L.E.G decided to support the Adelaide non-profit organization ‘Small Change for Change’.
We had a visitor come into the school and talk to S.L.E.G (the Student Lead Executive Group) about the need in Africa for clean drinking water and the lengths children have to go to get water. They may have to walk up to 20km each day to just get water. This takes valuable time off schoolwork and learning opportunities that could help them in the future. That water is unlikely to be clean and may carry diseases, which can cause diarrhea, dysentery, parasites and typhoid.
‘Small Change for Change’ is a charity organization that aims to raise awareness and to supply clean water to people in the ‘Central African Republic’, in Africa. They are asking if you would grab your spare change e.g. in your car, wallet, back of lounge, and bring it into school and put it in the bottles provided in your classroom. Your change will be used to build wells that are able to supply water for 400 people for 20 years! We calculated it takes 120 bottles to build one well.
If you happen to be interested in doing more by raising money personally, please see Josh Jaeschke in Room D18 near the sport shed, to collect your own bottle.
We will be running this until the end of this term.
Happy collecting! It would be great if each class could fill one bottle.
