How to cook damper…

IMG_0912

Today we built a pretend campfire in the middle of our classroom and baked some delicious pretend damper on it!

We talked about ways to be safe around fire, like always having an adult to help, wearing heatproof gloves to pick things up, not getting too close to the flames, and making sure the ground around the fire is clear.

While the coals were getting ‘hot’ we made our damper dough out of only three ingredients… can you remember what they were?

There were six simple steps to cooking our damper. Here they are:

  1. Make a fire
  2. Mix ingredients (flour, milk, salt) to make dough
  3. Put the dough in/near the fire and cover with coals
  4. Wait about 15 minutes
  5. Take damper out of the fire and dust off with a leafy branch
  6. Enjoy damper with jam

After we had enjoyed eating our delicious pretend damper we wrote out a procedure, including the title, picture, ingredients and method.

Maybe next time you go camping you might like to try it for yourself! Yum!

Word Work Words in Nature!

Alice – Yesterday we went outside to collect some nature.

Haidyn – We went to where the trees were to get some materials and they were supposed to be small.

Isabella – We put them in the tray and brought them back to our classroom to make our word work.

Connor – We made some partners. It was fun.

Kayla – We made our list words out of bark and rocks and leaves and sticks.

Alex – We took a picture of them.

Paige – We had to make all our list words and if there were big pieces we couldn’t use them.

Jake – We made 10 words.

Henry – Haidyn gets the first word, then I get the second word. And we had fun.

Weigh Up Your Lunch…

This term we have been learning to making healthy and balanced choices about our bodies and what we eat.

Today we played an online game to check how healthy our lunch box was. Try weighing up your lunch too!

Reconciliation Week

image

Last week was National Reconciliation Week in Australia and I am so proud of our class for the way they engaged with this!

We read and listened to stories of Australia’s Indigenous history and had lots of discussion about what it means to say sorry and make peace.

We also made this beautiful Aboriginal flag collage, which represents what Reconciliation Week means to us.

We presented this at the school assembly on Friday, and if you pop by our classroom you can see our beautiful work now displayed on the wall.

Ask us how we made it as a class!

Silly Sentences!

Today in Word Work one of our groups was working on making sentences with their list words. Here’s a sentence that they managed to fit ALL ten of their words into! What a silly sentence 🙂

Have a read…

Can you see which words were from the list?IMG_0475

Songs with Fernando!

IMG_0403

We had a very special guest in our class yesterday, and what a great way to start the day! Mia’s dad came along with his guitar and a whole bunch of musical talent to share with us. We joined in singing and dancing to songs like the Hokey Pokey, Bee Bop, We Are Australian, I’ve Got a Car That’s Made of Tin, and more! It was so much fun and we enjoyed seeing some really creative dance moves!

Which song was your favourite?

*NOTE: if any other parents/families have any skills or interests they’d like to share with our class please let Mrs Fern know!

Nature Play Scavenger Hunt

Today with our buddies from Mrs K’s class we went on a nature scavenger hunt! We were looking for things like ‘something with a pattern on it’, ‘a bumpy rock’, ‘an insect’, ‘a giant piece of bark’, and much more.

What other things did you find on your adventure?…

Happy Easter!

Well, it’s been a very busy week in Room 24!

We celebrated Harmony Day on Monday and you can check out the orange bunting hanging in our classroom, which shows why we love how diverse Australia is.

Wednesday was our first R/1 assembly with some lovely songs shared from all the classes.

Today the SRC representatives received their badges at an assembly and the massive Easter raffle was drawn! Congratulations to those taking home some very exciting chocolate hampers!

In between all these assemblies we’ve also had house meetings in preparation for Sports Day. You can check out the health hustle on the student blog and practise it like we have been doing in our classroom!

And of course we have been doing lots of learning this week… counting to 100 by 2s, 5s and 10s, thinking of words with ‘ng‘ in them (can you spot any in this post?), observing temperatures and the weather, exploring our own family histories through spoken/oral stories, and getting prepared for our student-led 3 way conferences next week!

We hope everyone has a fantastic and safe Easter weekend 🙂

Maths Picnic

Today we had a maths picnic out on the deck! There were six different activities that help us learn how to recognise, model, read, write and order numbers between 1-100. Working in teams meant that we could learn from each other when we came across something tricky!

Which one was your favourite?
