2025 SRC Leader Nomination & Election Process for Year 1-5 

Introduction
The Student Representative Council (SRC) plays an important role in giving students a voice and promoting leadership, engagement, and inclusivity at Craigburn Primary School. It’s an exciting opportunity for Year 6 students to lead, represent their peers, and help make positive changes in our school community.

Role of SRC Leaders
SRC leaders are role models who listen to their peers, share ideas, and work with teachers and leadership to improve our school. They help make decisions, create positive change, and ensure everyone feels included and valued.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Be a voice for classmates by listening to their concerns and ideas.
  • Advocate for positive change and improvements in the school.
  • Lead projects that promote inclusivity, school spirit, and belonging.
  • Communicate with students, teachers, and leadership to ensure everyone is heard.
  • Encourage good behaviour and participation in school events.

Expectations for SRC Leaders

  • Attend meetings and events and contribute to decision-making.
  • Show respect and fairness to everyone.
  • Work well with others and help achieve goals.
  • Get involved in school activities and initiatives.

Nomination and Election Process:

Week 2 – Teacher Discussions

  • Teachers will explain the role of an SRC Leader and the nomination process to students.
  • Parents will receive more information about the process via Craigburn Connections.
  • Students who want to nominate will submit their applications by Friday 7th February.
  • Teachers will send home letters confirming nominations to parents.

Week 3 – Speech Presentations

  • Students will present their speeches on Friday 14th February, explaining why they should be chosen as SRC leaders.
  • Teachers will assess the speeches and select the top two candidates from each class.
  • Parents will be notified of the results via letter, and successful candidates will be invited to the Student Leaders Assembly.

Presentation Assembly & Induction:

  • SRC Presentation Assembly: Friday 21st February, 2:30pm.
    • Parents of successful candidates are invited to attend, where badges will be presented.
  • Induction & Training: Friday 7th March, 1:45pm.
    • New SRC leaders will receive training to help them succeed in their role.

Teacher Responsibilities:

  • Support students in understanding the responsibilities of being an SRC leader.
  • Assess speeches using the SRC Leader Speech Rubric and select top candidates.
  • Ensure all nominations are submitted on time and inform parents.
  • Assist with the SRC Presentation Assembly and Induction sessions.
