Year 6 Leadership at Craigburn – Janine McKay (Student Wellbeing Leader)
Year 6 is a special milestone for our students at Craigburn, as they take on leadership roles and set a positive example for younger peers. To support their growth, we have established the Year 6 Leadership Teams program, providing all students with opportunities to develop confidence, teamwork, and responsibility—key qualities that align with our school values.
Each Year 6 student is part of one of four leadership teams:
- Environmental Leaders – Promote sustainability, lead eco-projects, and care for Craigburn’s garden and outdoor spaces.
- Be Active Leaders – Encourage physical activity, organise sports day, support the Premier’s Be Active Challenge, and plan PE Week activities.
- SRC Executive Leaders – Lead SRC initiatives, run whole-school assemblies, and represent student voice within Craigburn.
- Media & Communications Leaders – Capture and share Craigburn’s events through digital media, newsletters, and school promotions.
We are excited to see our Year 6 students embrace these leadership opportunities and make a positive impact on our school community.

Year 6 Leadership Training Day – by Year 6 students
On Friday, 14th February, the Year 6 students at Craigburn Primary School participated in an exciting Leadership Training Day run by Beyond Limits. The day was filled with engaging activities designed to help us discover and strengthen our leadership skills.
We learned that leadership comes in many forms and that every student has the potential to lead in their own way. Since we all have different skills, we explored how to use them effectively to support and inspire others. Throughout the day, we took part in various challenges that not only highlighted the leadership skills we already had but also helped us develop the ones we needed to improve.
The activities focused on key leadership components, including teamwork, problem-solving, communication, encouragement, listening, and embracing each other’s strengths. By working together, we built our confidence, learned to trust one another, and gained valuable insights into what makes an effective leader.
Overall, the Beyond Limits Leadership Training Day was an inspiring and valuable experience for all Year 6 students. We left the day feeling motivated and prepared to take on leadership roles within our school community. We look forward to applying our new skills and positively impacting our school community throughout the year.
Here are a few anecdotal thoughts from our Year 6 students:
“I learned that leadership isn’t just about being in charge—it’s about listening, supporting others, and working together. There’s no ‘I’ in team, and achieving a goal is much easier when everyone contributes.” — Lincoln
“The teamwork activities helped me step out of my comfort zone and trust my peers. I learned to communicate more effectively, listen to others’ ideas, and solve problems more efficiently as a team.” — Gillian
“I never saw myself as a leader before, but now I understand that leadership comes in many different forms.” — Haddie
Student Representative Council (SRC) – 2025 Representatives Announced – Janine McKay (Student Wellbeing Leader)
We are excited to announce our newly elected Student Representative Council (SRC) members for 2024.
Congratulations to all students who applied and presented speeches to their peers. We were incredibly impressed by the enthusiasm and commitment shown by each applicant.
We understand that not every student who applied was selected this time, and while this may be disappointing, we want to remind all students that leadership is about more than just holding a title. Being a leader is about kindness, helping others, and setting a positive example every day. There will be many opportunities throughout the year to contribute to school projects and initiatives, and we encourage all students to stay involved and continue making a difference.
Our newly elected SRC representatives will participate in a Leader’s Training Day this Tuesday, where they will develop leadership skills, teamwork, and set goals for the year ahead.
