The Weekly Wrap – Term 3 Week 10 – 2025

As we approach the close of Term 3, we would like to extend our thanks to all parents and friends who have supported our school community over the last term.

A special acknowledgement and thanks to the parents who have taken on roles as coordinators, coaches, and team managers in our after-school winter sports programs, including soccer, netball, and basketball. We hope students and families enjoyed a rewarding season of sport.

We would also like to acknowledge our students for their active participation in a wide range of activities this term, including their class learning programs and extra-curricular activities. And, we would also like to give a big shout-out to our teaching and support staff for their dedication and hard work over the term. We hope they enjoy a well-deserved break before the busy final term ahead.

Wishing all students, staff, and families a safe and enjoyable October long weekend and school holiday.

End of Term Dismissal – Reminder to Families

End of Term Dismissal – Friday 26 September at 2.10pm. OSHC will be open from this time.

Congratulations to Our School Choir – Festival of Music

Congratulations to our Craigburn choir, under the direction of Jimmy Marin (Performing Arts Teacher), on their wonderful performance at the Festival of Music last Tuesday evening at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre.

This was a special highlight for our singers, who have shown great commitment and enthusiasm throughout their rehearsals over many months. Their teamwork, dedication, and joy in performing shone brightly on stage, and we are very proud of how they represented Craigburn. A special shout out Lily who sang beautifully in the opening performance.

A big thank you also to Pearl Somerset for her support of Jimmy and the choir on the day.

Staffing Update – Congratulations to Veronica

We are pleased to share that Veronica Khalaf (Year 3/4 teacher and curriculum coordinator) has been appointed to a two-year position with the Department for Education, beginning at the start of next term. This is a terrific recognition of Veronica’s leadership and expertise, especially through her work in leading the reading project here at Craigburn.

We are in the process of finalising teaching arrangements for the C14 class for Term 4 and will confirm details with families as soon as possible.

Congratulations to Veronica on this exciting new opportunity – we wish her every success.

SRC End of Term Casual Clothes Day

This Friday, our SRC is hosting our End of Term Casual Clothes Day to support the fight against Childhood Dementia.

Students are invited to come dressed as their favourite superheroes, with a gold coin donation going towards the Little Heroes Foundation.

Funds raised will support vital research at Flinders University, aiming to discover treatments and, one day, a cure for Childhood Dementia.

A big thank you to Pearl Somerset and class B11 for bringing this initiative forward, and to our SRC leaders, Imogen and Jack, for helping to promote and organise the day.

Let’s all get behind this great cause and be superheroes for children and families affected by Childhood Dementia.

Friendology Class Display Challenge – Winners to Be Announced

Following the success of our Term 2 Direct Collect Recycling initiative, the SRC has launched a new whole-school challenge this term – the Friendology Class Display Challenge!

Each class has been busy designing creative displays to highlight key Friendology concepts such as Friendship Fires, Friendometer, Inner Ninja, Kind on Purpose, Gratitude Tree, and more. Students have worked together with great enthusiasm, showing teamwork, communication, and problem-solving as they brought these ideas to life in colourful and imaginative ways.

Mr Luke and Mrs Taylor will be visiting classrooms this week to view the displays before the winners are announced at our end-of-term assembly.

We look forward to celebrating the creativity, effort, and friendship values demonstrated by all students through this exciting challenge. Stay tuned for the results.

Congratulations Indigo – City to Bay

A big congratulations to Indigo who completed the 6km City to Bay Fun Run on Sunday, 21st September. Earlier this year, Indigo trained hard for the cross-country event but was unfortunately unable to compete due to illness. Showing great perseverance and determination, she kept up her training and set herself the goal of completing the City to Bay. On the weekend, Indigo proudly achieved her goal, running strongly in the 5km zone and finishing the 6km event. What a fantastic effort – we are all very proud of you, Indigo.

Friends of Craigburn – Term 4 Updates

Our Friends of Craigburn team have been busy planning some exciting initiatives for Term 4, including the Mini Market, the 2026 Calendar launch, and a new 10c Recycling Bin. These events and projects are a great way to support our school community and raise funds for students.

Friendly Reminders

Supporting Kids Before Smartphones

Some Craigburn families have recently joined Wait Mate — a grassroots initiative launched in Australia in 2024 that’s encouraging families to think carefully about the right age for children to receive their first smartphone.

While phones can be useful, research highlights that getting a smartphone too early can affect children’s wellbeing — impacting self-esteem, learning, and exposing them to risks such as bullying and online harm.

As a community, we can support our children by:

  • Delaying the age for first smartphones
  • Considering simpler devices or watches to stay in touch
  • Talking openly about safe and balanced technology use

Hats back on!

Please ensure your child has a hat before they come to school every day.  School hats are required for recess, lunch and other outdoor learning activities. School hats can be purchased through Qkr!, or at the front office.

Traffic and Parking

The local council has clear signage / road markings in relation to off-street parking. We respectfully ask families and friends to be extra mindful of adhering to the parking rules and regulations. This is in the best interest of safety for our students / families and local residents.

Planning for 2026

Planning is underway for the 2026 school year, which includes organising staffing, class structures and placements.
