The Weekly Wrap – Term 2 Week 4 – 2025

Celebrating Our Incredible Volunteers

This week marks National Volunteer Week across Australia—a special opportunity to recognise the amazing contributions of our parents and friends who generously give their time and energy to support our school community. From lending a hand in the canteen, assisting in classrooms, coaching and coordinating sports, organising fundraisers, joining excursions and camps, participating in the governing council, helping out in the library, uniform shop or school garden, to supporting special events—your commitment truly makes a positive impact. If you’re interested in learning about volunteer opportunities, feel free to email us at dl.1226.admin@schools.sa.edu.au or call 8270 4144. We’d love to hear from you!

Early Winter Ailments

We are still 2 weeks away from winter, however you may be aware that there has been a recent increase in cases of gastro, flu bugs, and COVID within our school community. To help keep our students, staff, and families safe, we ask for your support in keeping your child home if they are unwell, even if symptoms are mild.

Please check in here with the recommended minimum periods of exclusion from school for cases of, and contact with, infectious diseases – as provided by SA Health.

For specific information related to gastroenteritis (Norovirus) – please visit here, noting that children should be attending school until there has been no vomiting or diarrhoea for 48 hours.

Thank you for helping us protect the health and wellbeing of our school community. Your support is appreciated.

Get Ready for National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS) – This Wednesday

We’re excited to celebrate National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS) this Wednesday! Our Library is looking amazing, thanks to the hard work of Emily, along with Travis, Gemma, and students Lucas and Ethan D. They’ve brought Truck Cat to life with a fantastic display, and many of our students have helped by finding the best cat and transport books for our borrow boxes. A huge thank you to Nat Shearer’s Year 5 class (B11) for generously volunteering their time last Friday to prepare NSS Craft Packs for our Reception to Year 3 students.

To make the day even more special, the Canteen will be offering delicious bakery-style treats for purchase—the perfect addition to a day filled with reading and fun! Details here.

We look forward to seeing everyone join in the fun!

Reminders

  • Don’t forget – families are invited to share a favourite recipe from home (as inspired by the book). These recipes will be compiled into a special library book, available for borrowing and purchase, with proceeds supporting the Australian Refugee Association. For details on how to contribute, read the full post here. We look forward to seeing your delicious creations!
  • Save the date for our upcoming Book Fair in early June.
  • This month Scholastic is running their Read More In May Family Reading Initiative and we encourage  families to take part.

Canteen Lunch Orders – Absentee Policy Reminder

If your child is unwell and won’t be attending school, please notify the office if you have placed a lunch order for that day.
We’re happy to help – if we’re informed on the day, your child’s lunch order can be held over and used on another suitable day. However, if no notification is received, the canteen is not automatically aware of your child’s absence. The order will be prepared, and unfortunately, cannot be carried over to another day as the meal will already have been made and stock used.
We appreciate your support in helping us reduce food waste and manage canteen resources effectively.
Thank you! The Canteen Team

Cross Country Runners – Great Individual and Team Effort

Congratulations to all students who have competed in the Southern Heights Cross Country competition at Belair last week. Wonderful results and team camaraderie from everyone involved.  Thank you to Karen Pettman and Tristan Fergusson for training the team. Full report here.

Well done to the Craigburn families who walked to school today to celebrate Walk Safely To School Day. Students and families were greeted at the entrances to the school by our Be Active Leaders and Police Officers from Sturt Police Station. Check out the photos here.

Weekend Netball Results

Year 2s

What a cracker of a second game for our year 2’s!  All players are displaying natural netball skills and fierce determination. The girls maintained control of the ball most of the game and took out their first win scoring 6 to 0. Very proud of their efforts.

Coach- Tammy Manna

Year 2/3s

What a great second game from our Year 2/3 netballers! We saw a huge improvement across the board – some real determination in defence, especially from Georgina, who surprised us with her aggression. Caitlin and Amelia stood out as strong defenders – great finds! There was excellent flow through the midcourt from Sienna, Aspen, Alice B, Fleur, Aesha, and strong leadership from Summer – it’s clear they’ve been listening at training and bringing those drills into the game. Ivanka was fantastic in goals again – some brilliant shooter work! It won’t be long before all this hard work turns the game in our favour. Well done, team!

Coach- Sara Keating

Year 3/4s

The team showed great teamwork again this week in their away game against Tennyson Woods. A big congratulations to Elouise for playing her first ever game of netball. Our team worked hard in defence to keep their opponents from scoring. Great interceptions and driving the ball to our attack, which lead us to a 13-1 win. A big thank you to Bec English for coaching the girls this week while I was unable to.

Coach- Kim Altschwager

Year 5s

Craigburn Gold (Yr 5s) had an excellent game considering the wet and slippery conditions. Although we were defeated 12-3, the girls showed great determination right until the end. Everyone is growing in confidence on the court, and should be proud of their efforts.

Coach- Mathilda Grist

Years 5/6

Craigburn Navy finished with a win today against Aberfoyle Campus! Our team showed growing confidence and composure, especially in the wet conditions. We’re starting to find our groove as a team with better communication all around. Great team effort and a positive step forward!

Coach- Merissa Wilton

Year 6

Our Year 6 girls braved wet and chilly conditions this week but unfortunately came up short, losing to Glen Osmond with a final score of 23 to 6. It just wasn’t our turn for a win this time. They played with a smile and had plenty of encouragement for their teammates throughout the game. Looking forward to next week!

Coach- Annika Reinke

Looking forward to Round 3
