Fostering a Love of Reading!
On Wednesday 21st May, we proudly celebrated National Simultaneous Storytime in the library with the heartwarming picture book The Truck Cat by Deborah Frenkel and Danny Snell. An impressive 2,204,658 participants at 16,632 locations across Australia and the world read the story. This special event brought students together to enjoy the magic of storytelling and connect through shared creative experiences.
Following the story, Reception and Year 1 students explored the idea of “Who and What feels like home?” through art and reflection, creating thoughtful and imaginative works now proudly on display in the library.
Year 2 and 3 students enjoyed a hands-on creative session making their own cat-themed bookmarks and challenging themselves with some fun origami activities, all inspired by the beloved feline ‘Tinker’ the truck cat.
Competition Time
We invite students to participate in the Truck Cat colouring-in competition. Students have the chance to win their very own copy of the book! To enter, students simply need to submit their coloured-in sheet with their name and class number clearly written. Entries close on Friday 30th May, so be sure to get yours in on time!
Don’t forget – families are invited to share a favourite recipe from home (as inspired by the book). These recipes will be compiled into a special library book, available for borrowing and purchase, with proceeds supporting the Australian Refugee Association. For details on how to contribute, read the full post here. We look forward to seeing your delicious creations!
Thank you to all students and staff for making this event such a memorable celebration of reading, creativity, and community spirit.
