Governing Council Update – May 2025

We’re back with another update from the Governing Council to keep you in the loop with the exciting developments and behind-the-scenes efforts helping our school thrive.

Discussions at the 19 May Meeting

At our recent meeting, several exciting topics were discussed, including:

  • Paul presented the early designs for a refreshed school logo – a modern take that retains the heart of the existing design, especially the iconic trees. This is part of a broader branding update that includes our school values, signage, and a future uniform refresh – all expected to be completed in 2025. Please stay tuned for further updates.
  • Paul shared a summary of the many facilities improvements made over recent years – from the new toilets and Year 1 decking to the oval playground, gym floor and amphitheatre. These projects often take years of planning and require significant submissions to the Department’s facilities services seeking corporate funding.
  • School fundraising plays an integral part in further developing our school facilities. Please stay tuned for an update from our Friends of Craigburn team to share how our school’s fundraising efforts last year have made a positive impact across our school. We are now exploring what to prioritise next for 2025 and beyond. This includes a new process to help streamline funding requests and better align fundraising with school needs.
  • We’re exploring options to host parent education sessions at the school. Topics could include cybersafety, child behaviour, Life Education, and Friendology. If you have suggestions or would like to get involved, please reach out – we’d love your input!
  • Paul presented the Leadership report covering staffing updates, learning and development focuses, facilities, and curriculum updates.
  • Sophie Sutherland presented the Teachers’ report, providing valuable insights into what is happening across each year level, it was great having Sophie join the meeting.
  • We heard updates from each of our sub-committees who do wonderful work to support the school.

Recent Highlights

  • Mother’s Day Stall & Breakfast
A huge thank you to everyone who supported our recent Mother’s Day events. The Daily Grind coffee cart was buzzing with orders and while things got a little congested, we’re already considering a more open location for next year. We hope all our mums enjoyed their coffee and scones!
  • The Daily Grind – Our New Coffee Cart
We’re thrilled to see our new school coffee cart become such a hit! Operating every Tuesday and Thursday morning, it’s been a great way for our community to connect. A big shoutout to Sarah, Breanna, and all our volunteers who make it happen. If you’ve ever wanted to learn how to make a great coffee, keep an eye out – we’re planning some barista training sessions soon for interested helpers.
  • Craigburn Mural – Finished and Fabulous
Our new mural is now complete – and it looks incredible! Next time you’re at school, take a moment to admire this vibrant addition. We’ll be organising a formal opening celebration in the coming weeks.

Looking Ahead: Exciting Initiatives

We have some exciting projects on the horizon that we are eager to share with you:

  • Free Coffee for Volunteers
To celebrate National Volunteer Week, the Governing Council shouted a free Daily Grind coffee for our registered volunteers. We hope you enjoyed your cuppa on us as a small token of our thanks.
  • School Garden Upgrade Outdoor Kitchen – Planning
Yes, it’s happening! After lots of planning and fundraising, we’re excited to be moving ahead with further developing our school garden to incorporate much needed storage and an outdoor kitchen area. The school has been working with a consultant on concept plans and we’re hoping to bring this space in coming months.
  • Facilities Upgrades
In mid-June through until the end of the July and into early August, the gym / hall floor will be replaced due issues that have arisen when the new flooring was installed several years ago.
  • Fun Events Don’t forget to buy your tickets to our upcoming movie event or our music bingo night!

We Need You

Craigburn thrives because of you. Whether you help on the coffee cart, attend an excursion, join a subcommittee, or support an event, every bit counts. Your involvement brings energy, ideas and heart to our school – and we’re so grateful.

If you’re interested in volunteering or want to know more about how you can help, please chat to a Governing Council member or email the front office at dl.1226.admin@schools.sa.edu.au.
