The Weekly Wrap – Term 2 Week 6 – 2025

We hope all students, staff, and families enjoyed a restful and pleasant weekend. Special best wishes to those unwell with the various winter illnesses circulating—wishing you a speedy recovery.

On Saturday morning, I had the pleasure of watching several of our netball teams in action. It was heartwarming to see the enthusiasm and enjoyment our students showed while representing their school. The Year 5 versus the Year 5/6 team match was played in great spirit, demonstrating excellent teamwork and fair play. A special shout-out to all the coaches and supportive parents—your time and dedication are greatly appreciated.

Thanks for taking the time to read through this week’s Wrap!

Book Fair Excitement

We’re excited to invite our Craigburn community to the Larrikin House Book Fair, running from Monday 2nd to Thursday 5th June in the school library. With a fantastic selection of books for all ages and interests, it’s a wonderful opportunity to encourage a love of reading while supporting our school—every purchase helps us earn new resources. A heartfelt thank you to our dedicated library educators, Krysten and Emily, whose creativity and hard work have brought this event to life and continue to make our library a vibrant and welcoming space for all.

Reconciliation Week 2025 – Bridging Now to Next

The 2025 National Reconciliation Week theme, Bridging Now to Next, highlights the ongoing connection between Australia’s past, present, and future. It encourages all Australians to move forward together—guided by the lessons of the past—to help build a more united and respectful nation.

This year’s theme artwork, created by Kalkadoon artist Bree Buttenshaw, features native plants as symbols of strength and renewal, representing our collective ability to grow through challenges. Reconciliation is a shared journey—one that has seen both progress and setbacks. As we mark 25 years since Corroboree 2000, we continue the important work of walking together toward lasting change.

At Craigburn, we are proud to embed Aboriginal perspectives across many areas of learning, including novel studies, music, language, fluency work, Science, and HASS. Over the past week, students have engaged in a range of learning experiences aligned with this year’s theme.

To further honour Reconciliation Week, we invite parents and caregivers to join us for our whole-school assembly on Monday afternoon at 2:00pm, where classes will share their learning.

Senior Choir Update

Last week the Craigburn choir had their assessment with one of the Festival of Music conductors. Every year, each school choir is assessed on a number of factors, including lyric knowledge, part singing, pitch and rhythm accuracy and expression.  We are very pleased to say that the choir performed wonderfully and received a B+ grade. The students should be proud of the effort they put in, not only for the assessment, but in the weeks leading up to it. The Festival of Music will take place in September this year.

Lilo & Stitch Movie Fundraiser

A big thank you to our wonderful Friends of Craigburn team for hosting the special Lilo & Stitch Movie Fundraiser at Mitcham Cinemas. It was a fantastic community event filled with fun, smiles, and plenty of popcorn. We’re so grateful for the team’s ongoing efforts and commitment to bringing our school community together while raising valuable funds to support our students.

Our school mural is now complete and has quickly become a vibrant focal point, admired for its striking design. It has transformed our space and reflects the creativity and spirit of our local area and school community. Thank you to everyone who contributed to this project, with special thanks to Nicky Create for bringing such inspiring artwork to our school.

Weekend Netball Results

Year 2

Our year 2 team had a thrilling match against Colonel Light Gardens this week, securing a nail-biting 3-2 win thanks to some outstanding defensive plays and interceptions. Great job, girls!

Coach Tammy

Year 2/3

What a game! The girls hit the court strong and took an early lead. By three-quarter time, we were down by just one — but the team showed incredible heart and determination in the final quarter. With focus, hustle, and teamwork, they powered through for a brilliant comeback win. So proud of every player — your effort and resilience were outstanding. Well done, girls! 💪👏💙

Coach Sara

Year 3/4

The year 3/4s played a fantastic game against Belair. They were focused and worked together as a team. Unfortunately one of our players is out for a few weeks with a broken arm 5 mins into the first quarter. We are sending our love and thoughts with her and are incredibly proud of how brave she is! The girls had a fantastic win and will be moving up a division for the rest of the season. Well done girls!

Coach Kimmy

Year 5 and Year 5/6

What a beautiful day for a Craigburn vs Craigburn derby, as the Year 5 and Year 6 netball teams took to the court in a spirited and friendly showdown. Mr. Luke set the tone with an inspiring pep talk, firing up both teams with encouragement and school pride. While one team came away with the win, they celebrated with humility, cheering on their classmates who, despite not scoring, showed incredible determination, resilience, and teamwork. Many of the players are brand new to netball, but every single one gave their best, and all should be proud of their growth, sportsmanship, and the true Craigburn spirit that shone through from start to finish.

Mathilda and Merissa

Year 6

It was a chilly start to a sunny showdown with our Y6 Craigburn V Colonel Light Gardens. Unfortunately, that sunshine didn’t help us, with a 12 -7 defeat to CLG this time. We are looking forward to grading and more fun and challenges for the rest of the season!

ICAS Assessments

We encourage families to consider having their child participate in the ICAS Assessments for 2025. These optional, skills-based assessments provide students in Years 2–6 with a valuable opportunity to challenge themselves and showcase their abilities in subjects such as English, Mathematics, Science, Writing, and Spelling.

ICAS is a great way to celebrate academic achievement and build confidence in a supportive environment. To learn more or register, please visit our recent post here.

Friendly Reminders

80’s Music Bingo

The Friends of Craigburn team have been busy again behind the scenes organising a Music Bingo night for Saturday 14th June. Details here.

Canteen Lunch Orders – Absentee Reminder

If your child is unwell and won’t be attending school, please notify the office if you have placed a lunch order for that day. We’re happy to help – if we’re informed on the day, your child’s lunch order can be held over and used on another suitable day.

However, if no notification is received, the canteen is not automatically aware of your child’s absence. The order will be prepared, and unfortunately, cannot be carried over to another day as the meal will already have been made and stock used.

We appreciate your support in helping us reduce food waste and manage canteen resources effectively.

Thank you! The Canteen Team
