As we approach the midpoint of the 2025 school year, we would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone in our school community for your continued support and engagement throughout the first half of the year.
We extend our thanks to all families who have generously volunteered their time to support school events, classroom activities, and extracurricular programs – your contributions are truly valued and make a meaningful difference.
We also acknowledge and thank our dedicated teaching and support staff for their ongoing efforts and hard work over the past two terms. Their commitment to student learning and wellbeing has been greatly appreciated, and we know they are looking forward to a well-deserved break.
To all our families, we wish you a safe, restful, and enjoyable mid-year break.

Mid-Year Student Reports
We are pleased to inform you that mid-year student reports will be distributed this Wednesday afternoon. Reports will be emailed to families via our new Education Management System (EMS). As part of this transition, we are using a new report template. While the layout may appear slightly different from previous years, the report still contains the same key information regarding your child’s progress and achievement. Printed copies are available upon request. Families who have already requested a hard copy will receive it in a sealed, labelled envelope via their child.
Over recent weeks, our teachers have thoughtfully prepared these reports, drawing on a range of assessments and evidence to reflect your child’s learning and progress throughout the first semester. As you read your child’s report, we encourage you to take the opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate their efforts and achievements. Alongside academic progress, we also value the development of positive learning dispositions and character qualities – these are referenced on the new reporting template as ‘Classroom Indicators.’
To support a meaningful conversation with your child, you may find the following prompts helpful:
- What is something you achieved this semester that you’re really proud of?
- In what area do you feel you’ve made the most improvement?
- What are three important things you’ve learned this semester?
- What was something challenging at the start of the year that feels easier now?
- What piece of work are you most proud of, and why?
- How would you describe your school year so far in three words?
We hope these prompts support a thoughtful and encouraging discussion about your child’s learning journey.
These conversations can also provide a great lead-in to next term’s Student-Led Conferences, where students will further reflect on and share their learning. Conference times and booking details will be available from this Thursday, with further information sent to families via email.
Library Legends Visit Coro Kindy
On Friday afternoon, our Year 5 Library Legends community group had the exciting opportunity to head out on a special excursion to Coromandel Valley Kindergarten. The visit was all about sharing our love of reading and connecting with the younger members of our wider community, whilst building leadership skills.
The year 5 students shared the Early Childhood CBCA books with the kindy children and planned a fun, literacy-based activity to accompany it. From creative storytelling sessions to hands-on crafts, the activities were a hit with the little ones – and a fantastic way for our students to build confidence and leadership skills.
It was great to see students engage so positively with one another and the kindy children, forming connections through the joy of books. This experience not only fostered a sense of community but also helped our Library Legends grow as young leaders and role models.
We’re proud of the way our students represented our school, and we hope to see more opportunities like this in the future.
Save the Date – Whole School Photos
Whole School Photos are scheduled for Tuesday 12 August – more details to come.
Beyblades at School – A Safety Reminder
We’ve noticed a growing interest in Beyblades among students recently. While we love seeing children engage in fun, creative play, we do need to ask that Beyblades stay at home. Many Beyblades are made of metal and can spin at high speeds, which increases the risk of accidental injury during play. To ensure everyone’s safety in the schoolyard and classrooms, we ask that these toys are not brought to school.
School Sports
It’s been incredibly rewarding to see so many students and families actively involved in school sports this year. Our netball, soccer, cricket, and basketball competitions have offered fantastic opportunities for students to build their skills, enjoy being part of a team, and experience the true spirit of sport.
A special thank you to our dedicated sports coordinators—Kimmy (Netball), Tamara (Soccer), and Skye (Netball)—for their outstanding work in organising and supporting their respective teams throughout the season.
We also sincerely thank the many parents who volunteered their time to coach and manage teams. These competitions simply wouldn’t be possible without your ongoing support.
In addition, the SAPSASA sports program has provided our students with the chance to represent Craigburn and compete with pride against students from other schools. We extend our thanks to our PE teacher, Karen Pettman, for her leadership in coordinating these opportunities, and again to the parents who have generously contributed their time and support to these events.
Basketball Term 2 Recap
Year 3: Craigburn Yellow
What a term it’s been for our awesome Craigburn basketball yellow team! Each week, the boys are showing up with big energy, growing in confidence and improving their skills. It’s been so great to see their teamwork develop and their excitement build as they try new plays and strategies on the court.
They’ve had plenty of laughs, some epic wins (and close games!), and they’re always looking forward to the next challenge. We’re super proud of the progress they’ve made — both as players and as mates.
Well done, team! Bring on next term
Coach: Fraser Duncan Team Manager: Emma Duncan
Year 3: Craigburn Blue
The team has remained consistent with effort, and has been rewarded with some outstanding wins this term, showcasing teamwork, and skills around the ball. They never shy away from a challenge. We can’t wait to see what Term 3 holds as we head in with the same 7 boys. Go Craigburn Blue!
Coach: Sam Harding Team Manager: Sally Harding
Year 5:
High five’s returned to the Rec Centre this term after time of elbow tapping and ‘GG’s!’ Sportsmanship was elevated and lessons of respect and posture are being learnt both on the court, and whilst on the bench.
This term has seen the entire Year 5 team improve, playing more effectively as a team, with some great use of voice on the court! Every week the boys bring great passion and are working well together. Collectively they have shown improvement in skills and technique, as both individuals and the team players they are developing into.
I am looking forward to getting back to our lunchtime sessions next term, where we will start working on taking smarter shots, with an increased focus on defensive effort. Well done lads on a great term!
Coach: Petar Milosevich Team Manager: Gisella Hardy

Year 5/6:
Our Year 5/6 boys basketball team had a great time this season! The boys have had lots of fun learning new skills and really began to gel as a team, showing great teamwork and sportsmanship on and off the court. Especially as the last half of term was riddled with colds and flu! A special highlight was when Principal Mr. Luke joined us for a training session, impressing the boys with his own basketball skills and giving them an extra boost of inspiration!
Coach: Bianca Galizzi Team Manager: Skye Jeffrey

Netball Results
Our last games were played for the term on Saturday. The teams have shown wonderful team work, resilience and determination through their first half of the season. I am incredibly grateful for our amazing coaches and the time that they volunteer towards school netball. Their efforts are appreciated, and I look forward to a great second half of the season.
I also want to mention the coffee cart crew on Saturday mornings where we have soccer and netball on. We appreciate having delicious beverages and food to keep families warm on the sidelines.

Congratulations to all our players on your efforts this season and to the parents, families, and friends for coming out each week to support the teams.
Have a safe break.
Kim Altschwager – Netball Coordinator
Year 2s
An exceptionally well-matched game against Coromandel Valley, which ended in a remarkable 0-0 draw.
Having previously been defeated by Coro, it was fantastic to see our significant progress.
Commendable efforts by all the girls.
Year 2/3s
Our team played an incredible game against Happy Valley, winning 7–5 — a huge improvement from our last match against them, which we lost 7–1. The Happy Valley coach couldn’t believe how much we’ve grown!
Every player gave it their all, and it really showed on the court. A special thank you to Summer’s grandma, Karen, for all her help this season. We saw some of the moves she taught the girls in action today! We’ll miss her and wish her a wonderful trip.
Fantastic effort, team — we’re so proud!
Year 3/4s
Our team played a great game of netball this morning. The conditions were tough, but the girls kept up the pressure. Unfortunately, we lost 3-8 against Glen Osmond, but I was incredibly proud at the skills and team work from the girls. A special visit from Miss Sophie was the highlight for the girls this morning. We appreciate her coming and watching the girls this morning.
Year 5s
Another hard-fought game today for our Year 5s. After a solid start we went down 8-5 in another game the girls can be proud of, particularly with no bench. Black Forest had some strong, skilled players but we gave it our all with exceptional defence and solid intercepts. The girls are growing their skills every week and their practice at trainings and home is showing on the court.
Year 5/6s
Our 5/6 team put in a great effort but had a loss this weekend. They had a great scoring second quarter, showing just how much they’re learning to work the ball into the goal ring. There were lots of strong intercepts, with everyone working hard in defence and backing each other up. The team should be really proud of how they played and the improvement they’re showing each week!
Year 6s
Year 6 enjoyed the Bye this week, hopefully all resting up for the games next term
Friendly Reminders
School Traffic
Please help keep our school community safe and traffic flowing by:
- Following local traffic and parking rules near the kiss and drop zone (Murrays Hill Rd and Heath Lane).
- Avoiding stopping or waiting on Murrays Hill Rd or at the zone entrance, as this causes congestion.
- Moving through the zone if a short-term park isn’t available.
- Contacting the front office if you’re delayed beyond 3:30pm—your child will wait there after staff duty ends.
- Not entering the school grounds via the top gate near the water tank, as this area is not designated for pedestrian access.
Please note: Council rangers may visit at any time.
ICAS Assessments
We encourage families to consider having their child participate in the ICAS Assessments for 2025. These optional, skills-based assessments provide students in Years 2–6 with a valuable opportunity to challenge themselves and showcase their abilities in subjects such as English, Mathematics, Science, Writing, and Spelling. ICAS is a great way to celebrate academic achievement and build confidence in a supportive environment. To learn more or register, please visit our recent post here.
Canteen Lunch Orders – Absentee Reminder
If your child is unwell and won’t be attending school, please notify the office if you have placed a lunch order for that day. We’re happy to help – if we’re informed on the day, your child’s lunch order can be held over and used on another suitable day. However, if no notification is received, the canteen is not automatically aware of your child’s absence. The order will be prepared, and unfortunately, cannot be carried over to another day as the meal will already have been made and stock used. We appreciate your support in helping us reduce food waste and manage canteen resources effectively. Thank you! The Canteen Team
