This week, Craigburn Primary joined schools across Australia in recognising National Action Against Violence and Bullying Week – a nationwide initiative to raise awareness about the impacts of bullying and to empower young people to stand up for kindness, inclusion, and respect.
At Craigburn, we link this important event with our Friendology curriculum and rename it Mean on Purpose? No Way! Week – a title that helps students understand what bullying means and reinforces our belief that everyone deserves to feel safe and valued at school.
Throughout the week, students engaged in a range of activities and reflections that highlighted the importance of respect and kindness:
- Classroom learning and discussions – exploring what bullying is, the difference between mean behaviour and conflict, and how to respond in safe and respectful ways.
- A Kindness Wall – where students wrote messages of care and encouragement, creating a powerful visual reminder of how kindness can spread across our school.
- Compliment Chain – a lunchtime activity run by our Year 6 Student Action Team, where students wrote compliments for one another, linking them together to form a growing chain that stretched across the library, symbolising the power of kind words to connect and uplift.
- Daily challenges and reflections – in the notices, which encouraged students to practise empathy, kindness, and inclusion in their everyday interactions.
The message of the week was clear: at Craigburn, we believe that kindness is powerful, inclusion matters, and that bullying has no place in our community.
