The Weekly Wrap – Term 3 Week 5 – 2025

SSO Appreciation Week

This week, we celebrate and acknowledge the wonderful contribution of our School Service Officers (SSOs) and the positive impact they have on the daily life of our school community.

Our SSOs support every corner of school life – from administration, finance, ICT, and library, to maintaining our grounds and garden, nurturing student wellbeing, and providing vital learning support. Their dedication ensures our school runs smoothly and our students, staff, and families are supported every step of the way.

A heartfelt thank you to Clare, Bron, Hayley, Julianne, Travis, Emily, Chelsea, Krysten, Genna, Tyson, Ella, Hannah, Annika, Catherine, Linda and Jason. We are truly grateful for all that you do, and we hope you enjoy this special week of appreciation.

We warmly invite families to show their appreciation by submitting a ThankED message through the Department for Education’s ThankED portal—a meaningful way to acknowledge the everyday difference SSOs make in our school community

SAPSASA Basketball Update

Last Thursday, I had the pleasure of coaching our SAPSASA basketball team. The players showed terrific spirit, determination, and teamwork, giving their very best despite coming up against some tough opposition. Each player can be proud of the way they played their game and supported one another on the court.

A big thank you also goes out to the parents and families who came along to cheer the team on – your encouragement made a real difference and was greatly appreciated. Well done, team – a great effort all round.

Celebrating Book Week at Craigburn!

We’re excited to celebrate Book Week this week from Monday 18 – Friday 22 August, with a week full of storytelling, creativity, and inspiration.

Highlights of the Week

The Great Book Swap

A big thank you to all the families who have kindly donated books so far – your generosity is helping us make this year’s Great Book Swap a great success!

Just a reminder:

  • Reception – Year 2: Monday 18 August
  • Year 3 – 6: Tuesday 19 August

Students can bring along a gold coin to swap for a book of their choice. Please note – coin donation only on the day (no EFTPOS or IOUs). Only students with a gold coin will be able to take part.

We are still accepting book donations – no donation is too big! Every book helps. Students can swap books, share the joy of reading, and support First Nations communities across Australia. Thank you to everyone who has already donated – and keep them coming, every book helps!

Dress Up Day & Parade – Friday 15 August

  • Location & Time: 9:15am, bottom court (next to the amphitheatre, weather permitting)
  • Dress Up: Come dressed as a favourite book character inspired by this year’s theme “Book an Adventure!”
  • Family Welcome: Families are warmly invited to join us. The Daily Grind will be onsite with coffee and hot chocolate.
  • Costume Shop: Visit our second-hand costume shop in the Library – everything under $2, with proceeds supporting the Environment Team’s garden projects.

Special Author & Illustrator Visits

  • Friday 22 August – Danny Snell (Reception–Year 2): Adelaide-based illustrator of The Truck Cat, this year’s National Simultaneous Storytime book.

These sessions will give students a unique insight into the world of storytelling, culture, and creativity.

We can’t wait to see our students, staff, and families come together to celebrate the magic of books.

More details to come – we hope to see you there!

Winter Wellbeing

As we move through the colder months, a range of winter ailments have been making their way through our school community. This has affected not only students and families, but also our staff and their families.

When staff are away for any length of time, we do our best to ensure continuity by employing relieving teachers who are already well known to our community.

We send our very best wishes to everyone who may be unwell and hope for a smooth and speedy recovery. Thank you for your understanding and for continuing to support one another during this winter season.
