As we begin Term 4, it’s a great time to share a quick update from your Governing Council (from our last meeting in the final week of school last term) on some of the key discussions and initiatives we’ve been progressing behind the scenes this term.
One of the real strengths of our school is the sense of community – and the last few months have been full of events that brought our families together. From the success of our inaugural Music Bingo Night to themed days in the canteen, chilly Saturday mornings spent watching winter sports, and the continued buzz around our Daily Grind coffee cart.
Shaping Our School’s Future
Branding – We’re thrilled to be finalising our new school branding, which includes a refreshed logo design and a creative theme, the branding will be incorporated into our uniform, website and vibrant new signage and wayfinding markers for around the school. Can you guess the theme we’ve chosen? There’s a hint placed around the school, it’s colourful, bold and hard to miss. We look forward to sharing more details soon.
Vision & Values – Students, teachers and the governing council have been working on an updated vision and values statements for the school This will help clearly communicate the things we stand for and what we want to be known for, both internally and across the broader community.
Facilities: We are progressing plans to redevelop both the school garden and the Junior Primary playground, with a focus on creating flexible, engaging outdoor spaces that include elements like an outdoor kitchen. This planning is being approached thoughtfully to ensure we create something special, lasting, and good value for our community.
Classroom Highlights
Teacher representative Miss Sophie once again provided an engaging update on all the great learning happening across classrooms. The mid-year Receptions (our Joeys!) have settled in beautifully and Footsteps has been a hit across classes. Late last term, students participated in the Life Education program, and many classes have joined in the fun with the Friendology door display competition.
The focus on exploring the natural world continued with enriching excursions: The 3/4 classes recently visited Cleland to wrap up their studies on Australian biomes and wildlife and the Year 1s exploring animals in their trip to the zoo next term, and. A huge thank you to our dedicated teachers and parent volunteers—these experiences wouldn’t happen without you!
Committee Updates
Friends of Craigburn: This enthusiastic team has been hard at work with plenty of exciting initiatives. The Father’s Day stall and breakfast was a huge success, it was great seeing so many dads hanging out for a coffee and a Danish. Each class is currently working on their 2026 calendar artwork—order yours now via Qkr. A school disco is locked in for 7 November, with the student-voted theme of Pyjama Party! There’s also a Mini Market planned for Friday 24 October, and our new 10c recycling bins are up and running, don’t forget to bring in your eligible cans and bottles to support school fundraising.
OSHC: We’ve now confirmed the OSHC Christmas closure period. The final day of service for 2025 will be Friday 19 December, and it will reopen on Monday 5 January.
Sport: It’s been another action-packed term for school sport, with soccer and netball running smoothly and basketball and cricket due to kick off again next term. The committee is planning a Term 4 “Come and Try Day” to give students a chance to have a taste of different sports. Parents are encouraged to get involved—we’re always looking for new volunteer coaches. Keep your eyes on the blog because we’ve approved funding to upgrade our Pedal Prix vehicles.
Canteen: Recent themed days like Lava Chicken Burger Day and Bakery Day were a hit as were the Golden Tickets! Annika, Sue and the team are working on new weekly specials, gluten-free options, and ways to make the canteen more sustainable and profitable. The canteen also received a 5-star health and safety rating in a recent audit—congrats to the canteen team for this well-deserved recognition.
Uniform: Work continues refreshing our school uniform policy and updating the uniform design to align with our new branding. The uniform committee has met with local suppliers and the proposed changes are minimal and will retain the familiar look our community knows and loves. The goal is to finalise this update by the end of 2025, ready for a refreshed rollout in 2026.
Finance – We’ve introduced a new expenditure request template to help sub-committees and staff submit ideas for purchases and events. This will ensure alignment with school priorities and allow us to better track and plan for big-ticket items.
