PE Week at Craigburn
We’re looking forward to celebrating Physical Education Week this week, highlighting the importance of health and physical education in student learning and wellbeing.
A big thank you to Mrs Pettman for her outstanding organisation and to our Year 6 Be Active Leaders for planning a fun week of activities, including Movement Monday, Try Something New Tuesday, Wellbeing Wednesday, Target Thursday, and Fabulous Friday!
Students are encouraged to join in daily challenges and dress up in sports team colours or as a favourite athlete on Friday to finish the week with energy and school spirit. Check out the full details here.
Year 5 Camp at Arbury Park
Best wishes to our Year 5 students as they head off to Arbury Park Outdoor School for their three-day camp this week. We hope they enjoy a wonderful few days of adventure, environmental learning, teamwork and fun.
A huge thank you to our teachers for their planning and organisation, and to the parents who have volunteered their time to support and help meet supervision ratios. Your contributions make experiences like these possible and memorable for our students.
Student Free Day – Monday 24 November
A reminder that our remaining student free day for 2025 is in Term 4 Week 7 on Monday 24 November, endorsed by our Governing Council earlier this year. On this day, school staff will be undertaking an analysis of a range of student learning data to inform future curriculum planning and learning for next year. OSHC will be available for bookings.
Save the Date – Celebration Night – Monday 8 December
We are very much looking forward to our annual Celebration Night on Monday 8 December, when our community comes together to enjoy song and dance performances from students / staff, and including end of year presentations, x-mas raffle and farewells. Please save the date, and stay tuned for further details.
Last Day of the School Year – Friday 12 December – Early Dismissal – 2.10pm
As per the department’s policy regarding early dismissals, schools are only able to dismiss students up to one hour prior to normal dismissal. This means that on our last school day of the year, Friday 12 December, students will be dismissed at 2.10pm.
New Receptions
A warm welcome to all the new children and families joining us for their first of three transition visits this Wednesday. We look forward to meeting and getting to know many new families and making the transition a smooth, enjoyable and memorable experience.
End of Year Reports
At this time of the term, teachers are writing end of year student reports. As part of the reporting process, teachers work with year level team colleagues to moderate and discuss student assessments to ensure consistency of teacher judgement when reporting A-E grades (Years 1 -6) for subject areas within the Australian Curriculum. Reports will be handed out on Wednesday 11 December.
Class Placement for 2026
As shared previously, we have begun the class placement process in preparation for the new school year. The class placement process is a complex and time-consuming one, involving multiple factors. Students will be informed of their class placement on Wednesday 10 December, when they visit their new class for 2026 after Recess.
On the same day, parents / carers will be informed via a class placement letter along with their child’s end of year report.
2026 Materials and Services Charges Poll
Families of children who will be at Craigburn in 2026 will receive a Materials and Services Charges Polling Letter via email. As you will read in the polling letter, the Craigburn Primary School Governing Council has approved the Materials and Services Charge for 2026 to the amount of $480.
The Materials and Services (M and S) Charge contributes to the cost of providing essential items and services used or consumed by individual students during the course of their learning. This includes printed and electronic materials, access to books, stationery supplies, curriculum materials, printing and copying for use in the educational program, library and information technology resources.
Please note, the M and S Charge also covers the cost of whole-school incursions, including Footsteps, Book Week and Music performances to the approximate value of $60.
As announced in the 2025-26 State Budget, the Materials and Services Charge rebate for the 2026 school year remains at $200 per student.
The Governing Council believes the M and S Charge for 2026 at $480 per student represents great value at approximately $12 per student / school week.
As the proposed materials and services charge of $480 is greater than the legislated prescribed amount of $306 for a primary student, as referenced in the Education and Children’s Services Act, the Governing Council is required to undertake a poll to gain majority support from the school community for this proposed charge to be compulsory, and therefore recoverable in full.
The governing council therefore seeks your support for the proposed 2026 Materials and Services Charge of $480 to be compulsory.
If the majority of parents support the Governing Council’s proposal that the Materials and Services Charge be compulsory then all parents, carers (excluding approved School Card holders) are liable for this charge.
Each family is entitled to one vote per student per poll, with a majority based on the number of respondents.
***Printed copies of the polling letter are available at the front office upon request.
If you have any questions, please contact Clare Aikens (Business Manager), Paul Luke (Principal) or myself – via the front office.

Bushfire Response Plan
Please take time to read through our Bushfire Response Plan for 2025/26, which forms part of our local emergency management procedures.
The bushfire response plan ensures what action we need to take on days of increased fire danger or in the event of a potential or actual bushfire threat. The bushfire response plan also assists the Department’s Security and Emergency Management (SEM) unit in providing emergency services key information regarding the location of students and staff during a bushfire emergency.
