As we approach the end of the school year, I want to extend my sincere thanks to our students, staff, and families for their ongoing effort and support.
Our students have embraced their learning with enthusiasm, upheld our school values, and taken part in a wide range of whole-school and year-level activities—many of which were showcased at our recent Learner Achievement Assembly. Whether achieving milestones, sharing their talents, or showing kindness and gratitude, every student has helped make Craigburn a vibrant, inclusive learning community. We hope they have enjoyed their year and look forward to a happy and safe holiday break.
Our teaching and learning support staff have once again demonstrated their strong commitment to providing a safe, caring and engaging environment for our students. Their positivity, hard work and focus on continual improvement underpin the quality learning experiences across our school. Likewise, our admin, finance, library, ICT and grounds teams have worked tirelessly to ensure our school operates smoothly every day. We truly value the contribution of every staff member and wish them a happy and restful break.
We also appreciate the ongoing support of parents and friends in our school community. Your involvement—through sports, committees, fundraising, excursions, and camps—adds richness to our students’ experiences and reflects our shared commitment to their wellbeing and success. Special thanks to our Governing Council members: Kelly Howlett (Chair), Katelyn Adams, Bec May, Bree Rosser, Kim Altschwager, Sarah Jordan, Sally-Ann Prince, Annika Reinke, Bridget Dansie, Skye Jefferey, Tamara McMaster and Lisa Mackie, for their advocacy and support. We also acknowledge and thank Sue Letheby and Kylie Preece for their valued contributions through our canteen and OSHC services.
Congratulations to our Year 6 graduates. They are a wonderful group of young people, and we wish them every success in their secondary schooling and beyond. Thank you to the Year 6 team for coordinating the graduation ceremony at the Capri Theatre on Wednesday evening.
Each year, we also farewell families who have been part of Craigburn for many years. We are grateful for your long-standing involvement and wish you all the very best for the future.
We look forward to a positive final week of school and will share our final update for the year in next Sunday’s Holiday Wrap.
Warm regards,
Paul

Class Placement for 2026 and Orientation Visits – Wednesday 10th December
As outlined in last week’s post, Class Structure, Placement and Orientation Visits for 2026, our class structure for the new school year has now been finalised. We will begin 2026 with 16 classes, based on our projected enrolments and the Department’s student-centred funding model.
The structure reflects our commitment to collaborative teaching teams and maintaining smaller class sizes in the early years. As is common in most schools, we will have a mix of straight year-level and composite classes, shaped by the varying numbers of students across each cohort.
Students will be informed of their 2026 class placement on Wednesday 10th December, during their orientation visit held after Recess.
On the same day, parents and carers will receive their class placement letter in a sealed envelope. Families of children starting Reception will receive their placement letter via email.
A staff list with class locations will be posted on Craigburn Connections on Wednesday afternoon.
Supporting Your Child
We ask parents and carers to have a positive and supportive conversation with your child regarding their new class. It is common for children to come home from a transition visit with a range of emotions. In most cases, children will come home excited as they have met their new teacher/s and class, whilst in some cases, it is natural for children to come home feeling upset or worried about their placement.
Please reassure your child that their current teacher/s, and school leaders have considered the best placement for their learning and wellbeing. Encourage them to speak with their current class teacher the following day who will also provide reassurance.
Please know that your child/ren will adjust to their new learning environment and make new friends. Students generally adapt to their new class quickly. Early in the new school year students, teachers and parents will have the opportunity to establish positive relationships and connections at our annual Acquaintance Evening.
Please note:
We will not be in a position to move students. Moving a student from one class to another inevitably changes the environment of multiple class groupings and for this reason, we will not be in a position to move students.
Please read the recent post Class Structure, Placement and Orientation Visits for 2026 for further information.
Staffing Update
Our teacher staffing allocation has been finalised for 2026. Each year brings about a change to our staff list with: new teacher appointments, teachers leaving / appointed to other sites, teachers returning from or taking leave, and teachers increasing / decreasing their fraction of time. There will also be a number of teachers working in a part-time capacity where classes will be shared. Our updated staff list will be posted on Craigburn Connections on Wednesday afternoon.
End of Year Reports
Teachers have finalised the end of year student reports, which will be emailed home to families on Wednesday (noting class placement letters will be sent home in a sealed envelope). Please take the time to read through your child’s report to share in their growth and successes.
Early Dismissal – Friday 2.10pm
Students will be dismissed at 2.10pm on Friday afternoon. We ask that students do not remain on school grounds without a family adult member. Please be careful if collecting your child at this time, and be especially mindful of local parking and traffic regulations.
Gala Day Wrap-Up
Gala Day was a fantastic success, filled with creativity, collaboration, and fun. Students from Years 3-6 showcased their market stalls offering food, crafts, and activities, providing a wonderful experience for all. The event was a great opportunity for our students to learn valuable life skills, while also enjoying the vibrant atmosphere created by their hard work. Thank you to all students, staff, and families for making this day memorable. We hope everyone enjoyed the day and the chance to participate in this annual Craigburn tradition. Special thanks to Mrs Pettman for coordinating this year’s event.
Craigburn’s Got Talent Showcase Wrap-Up
Craigburn’s Got Talent was a fantastic celebration of student creativity and confidence. Our performers lit up the stage with an impressive range of talents, entertaining the audience and showing great courage and enthusiasm. Thank you to all students who took part—you brought energy, joy, and plenty of smiles to our school community. A special thanks to staff and families for supporting the event and helping make it such a memorable showcase.
Amazing talent too, on display by our teachers who performed a great cover version of Elton John’s, Cold Cold Heart.
Well done to everyone involved and a big thank you to Mr Marin for coordinating the event.
Upcoming – Year 6 Graduation – Wednesday 10 December
We are excited to announce that the Year 6 Graduation will be a special and memorable event, held at the iconic Capri Theatre in Goodwood. This is a wonderful occasion to celebrate the achievements and milestones of our Year 6 students as they prepare to transition to high school. The evening will be filled with reflections, speeches, and presentations, highlighting the growth and accomplishments of our students throughout their time at Craigburn. We look forward to celebrating this significant milestone with our Year 6 students and their families.
Salvation Army Christmas Appeal and SRC Casual Clothes Day
To support the Salvation Army Christmas Appeal, we will be having our final Casual Clothes Day on Friday 12th of December. Instead of the regular gold coin donation, we are asking our school community for assistance through the collection of non-perishable food items. Further details here.
Thank You to Our Friends of Craigburn and School Community
As we reflect on our fundraising efforts this year, we want to extend our sincere thanks to everyone involved. Your generosity and commitment have helped us raise around $23,000—funds that directly support projects benefiting our students and strengthening our school environment.
Celebrating Friends of Craigburn & the Daily Grind
A special thank you goes to our Friends of Craigburn parent group, who have worked tirelessly to coordinate fundraising events and initiatives throughout the year. Their work—much of it behind the scenes—has had a significant impact on what we’ve been able to achieve. We also acknowledge the wonderful Daily Grind team, whose continued support through coffee mornings and community events has contributed to our fundraising efforts and helped build a welcoming atmosphere for families.
To Our Volunteers – You Make the Difference
To the parents, carers, grandparents, special people and local community members who have contributed time, donations or assistance in any way—thank you. Whether planning in the background, helping on the day, donating items or simply attending events, your involvement strengthens our school community and supports the experiences of all students.
How Fundraising Has Helped
Fundraising from last year has supported several improvements and enhancements across the school, including:
- Upgraded library shelving – improving organisation, space and accessibility.
- A new library mat – creating a comfortable and flexible space for story time and group activities.
- Spectacular birdlife mural – the vibrant artwork on the gym wall overlooking the oval.
- ‘Keep warm’ bags for the canteen – improving food service efficiency.
- A new barbecue – for school and community events.
What’s Coming Next
Funds raised this year will support a number of projects and improvements, including:
- Outdoor ‘loose parts’ play items – especially for early years students.
- Pop-up soccer goals and portable football goal posts – for play break sport.
- Contribution to new bikes for our Pedal Prix team.
- iPad charging cabinets – improving device storage and care in classrooms.
- Major enhancements to our school garden space. While we had hoped to move ahead with the outdoor kitchen this year, planning has shown that essential groundwork is needed first. This includes a larger storage facility (shed) and improvements to the sheltered learning space (weather-proofing) to ensure the area is functional, safe and sustainable long-term. As a result, the outdoor kitchen has been temporarily paused so we can address these foundational elements. Once complete, we will be well positioned to progress with the full outdoor learning and kitchen space.
Once again, thank you to everyone for your support. Your contributions—large and small—make a meaningful difference, and we are grateful to have such a dedicated and supportive Craigburn community.
Year 4 Basketball Teams Shine at Lightning Carnival
Our two Year 4 basketball teams had a great time at the end of season Lightning Carnival on Wednesday afternoon. All teams played each other once in some fast-paced, energetic 7-minute games filled with highlights and some tense, close results!
Both Craigburn teams have been the strongest in the competition all year, and that was the case in the carnival with both teams competing in the Grand Final. After an exciting draw between the two teams in the first game, Craigburn Yellow came out on top in the final.
The boys played hard and represented their school very well, showing great sportsmanship all afternoon, cheering each other on and celebrating every basket. It was very pleasing to see their skills grow throughout the year and then be put into practice in the carnival. Well done boys and thanks for a great year of basketball.
Mick Rennie – Coach

Well Done Craigburn Cricketers
We finished off the year 2/3 cricket season yesterday! A massive thank you to Madhav, Justin and Pete for coaching the boys this season. All the kids improved so much and it was a lot of fun playing surrounding schools on Saturday mornings.

Learner Achievement Highlights
Here are some highlights and snapshots from our recent Learner Achievement Assembly—a wonderful celebration of student success, teamwork and growth. It was a fantastic opportunity to recognise the achievements of students across a wide range of learning areas and to reflect on the progress made throughout the year.
Reminder – New School Uniform Items Available from Monday 15th December
We are pleased to let families know that our updated Craigburn Primary School uniform items will be available to order from Monday 15th December through DLC Clothing.
Families will be able to view the updated items online (DLC Online Shop), with only minor adjustments made to the current uniform range — including a small update to the school logo. These changes improve consistency and quality while retaining our familiar navy and gold colours.
As part of this process, we are finalising a full Dress Code update, which will be shared with families soon. This will outline uniform requirements clearly, and reflect community feedback. Thank you for your continued support in helping our students present proudly and safely in our Craigburn uniform.

Friendly Reminders
Social media age restrictions
From 10 December 2025, age restricted social media platforms will be required to take reasonable steps to prevent Australians under 16 from creating or keeping an account.
The restrictions aim to protect young Australians from pressures and risks that users can be exposed to while logged in to social media accounts. These risks are often related to features that encourage extended screen time and expose young people to content that may affect their health and wellbeing.
There are no penalties for children, parents or carers. The responsibility sits entirely with the social media platforms.
Resources are available for parents, on the Office of the eSafety Commissioner website which provides up-to-date information on:
- platform restrictions
- online safety risks
- tips about staying safe online
- frequently asked questions.
Lost Property
Please come into school and check the lost property tubs near the second hand uniform shop. They are overflowing with jumpers, hats, lunchboxes and drink bottles.
Change of Contact Details
To help us keep up to date with family and emergency contact details please contact the front office with any change of contact details.
