Blogging Guidelines
This blog is the place where we share our learning and build global connections. As we embark on our blogging journey together, it’s important we establish some guidelines that help us create a safe and respectful online learning space.
Many of you have been in Miss Sporn’s class and are familiar with her class blog. She has some pretty clear guidelines here:
http://lsporn.edublogs.org/blogging-guidelines/
Here is another one from a 5/6 class in Canada- http://huzzah.edublogs.org/commenting-guidelines/
Both of these are very thorough. Can you think of anything we might need to add to our guidelines?
PS- Did you see the students blogs on the Huzzah’s website? Pretty cool, isn’t it? How do you feel bout having your own blog?
Wow! R.J is just like Jack’s babysitter! I never knew she got the idea for August by seeing a girl like him! I really like how she feels a certain responsiblity to help kids. I also like how she has put her experience with the girl into the story.
You are right, Abby! What a great connection you’ve made!
Wow I would have never guest that R.J would have come up with the idea of August from seeing I little girl that looked different. Also the part that interests me is how her children were scared and nervous and how see was going to speak to the girl to show her children that she was just like them but she did not do it out of fear. If I was R.J I would how proven my kids wrong and show she was normal.
I enjoyed the video it was very inspiring. It was a very good idea that she used the story from a kid that had the disorder.
I think a lot of good ideas are inspired by real life experiences. This experience certainly affected RJ Palacio deeply
Wow. I never knew that R.J got her idea from a little girl that she saw who looked different. I loved the video it reminded me of august straight away. I now know how R.J was feeling.
I am really liking this book, it is interesting how little information RJ Palacio had but how many things she thought of! So much inspiration! I cant believe that all this started from a little girl. It would be so hard to live like that as mum says “DIABETES IS NOTHING COMPARED TO WHAT OTHER PEOPLE FACE YOUR SO LUCKY IT WASN’T WORSE.” I wish I could meet August to see him for my self. I also wish Daisy would come back 🙁
How bad do you think his parents would feel taking August out and stuff like that?
THIRTEEN.
It’s Johns ‘birthday, and he’s feeling great.
He gets up, he gets dressed and he’s expecting balloons and streamers, but what he really wants is stunt bike.
He goes to the kitchen, but there is nothing to be found.
Mum serves burnt toast and rushes out the door, and dad’s already gone.
John waits for the bus, when it arrives he gets on.
He meets his best friend and tells him all about his miserable morning.
After John tells his friend Sam about his miserable morning, Sam punches him on the arm, and says “Happy birthday John”.
Finally the bus arrives at school and John gets to his class where he hopes mister Freeman will say “Happy birthday John”, but he doesn’t.
Johns’ first class is P.E which he doesn’t really enjoy, and before he knows it, he gets hit
In the face 12 times while playing dodge ball.
“This is the worst birthday ever”, said John on his way to the bus, with blood dripping from his nose.
Finally the bus arrived and John thought he could relax for a moment, until the bus driver pulled up and said to everybody on board, “I’m afraid I have a flat tyre, can everyone please get off the bus”.
As John steps off the bus, he steps into a giant mud puddle and continues his way home with his soggy pants, and then it starts to rain.
All of a sudden he hears a loud ‘CRACK , John gets hit in the head by a bolt of lightning,
It travels down his body and burns out the soles of his shoes.
Falling into bed that night, John felt soar, smashed and burnt.
As he was drifting off to sleep, John hears the sound of creaking floor boards by his bedroom door.
Frightened by the unknown noise by his bedroom door, John nervously turns on his lamp
To find his family in his bedroom holding two parcels.
“Are they for me?” asked John.
“No John, one is for aunt Mary, but this one is for………………you”.
John’s dad points to a large bike shaped parcel, as everybody sings,
“happy birthday John”.
After Johns’ mother rubs cream into his wounds, he unwrapped his brand new stunt bike.
THE END.
