Wow – what a great start!

Wow, what a great start to the school year. It is very pleasing to see all classes fully engaged with their learning.

There are many wonderful activities and programs happening around the school. We would like each class to share their learning in the comments section below.

What have you been learning about?

Why has it been interesting?

Is it your Inquiry Unit, a Maths Topic, a Science Project?

Let’s see if we can get all classes responding.

Remember you can comment on another class’s comment.

In Literacy in Room 1 we have been learning to use difficult adjectives (‘ Wow’ words), in our descriptions of settings and characters based on Little Red Riding Hood. Mrs O’Keefe has been very impressed with our ‘Wow’ words! We have stolen some of her words and shared adjectives before writing our descriptions. When read books we are looking for new words we can steal to use in our writing!

In Room 22 we have been learning about Patterns in Mathematics. We can make colour patterns, shape patterns and action patterns. We love making new patterns and sharing them with each other. Now we are learning how to number and record our patterns, and copy each other’s patterns in different ways. We had lovely fun borrowing some of Mrs Rayner’s musical instruments and playing our patterns!

We are beginning our inquiry unit into Ancient Civilisations…..we have learnt heaps and even that they did not have televisions way back then!!!!!!!
Our swaps have been fun and we have been learning about new things. We like working with the other teachers across the unit and it lets us go deeper with our learning.
We were excited to congratulate our SLEG representatives for this year. We know they will do a great job. 🙂

In Room 3 we read a Big Book called ‘Grumpy Rhino’. We looked at the special WOW words. We tried to pay attention to the punctuation marks. We learned that an exclamation mark means you have to say the words a bit louder. We can read the Big Book with lots of good expression and fluency. We think we are very clever readers.

    Hi Everyone,
We’ve had a really busy start to the year!
We started our Daily 5 reading and love Read to Self, Read to Someone and LIsten to Reading ( on our devices and computers). We’ve started Guided Reading with our parents helping us. We’ve done lots of Maths – number patterns, place value, skip counting and today we start addition and rainbow facts!!! In writing we’ve learnt about recounts, narratives and …….persuasive writing!!!! We’re starting to write a lot longer stories and persuasive arguments.
Our inquiry is about Safety and we’ve ALL researched a specific topic related to safety – we’re asking lots of Big Fat Juicy questions!!!!!!
We’ve loved working with Andy and Bianca.
Plus we’re having lots of fun in our new class!!!

In inquiry/SOSE we have begun with “Rules & Laws” were so far we have had to research and write a report about one of the following:
    King Hammarburi
    Medieval Laws
    Aboriginal Tribal Laws
    Ancient Greek Law
    Ancient Roman Law
Or King John and the Magna Carta.

In maths we have had to use 3 different strategies for adding and subtracting.
For home work we have had to do one homework matrix a week like “Sculpt It” where we have to make a statue 30cm-50cm tall or “My kitchen rules where we have to make a 3 course meal for our family!!!
