The Yr 3 students have been learning about ‘Pop Art’ and the artist Roy Lichtenstein. He is famous for creating large scale paintings and also made sculptures.
He was influenced by cartoon comics and the way they were made using printing machines that produced small dots of colours called ‘Ben-day dots. He created his works as a very large scale paintings. He was criticised during the time of POP ART in the 1950’s to 1960’s for his work; he was told his style of art ‘Is not Art’.
Many ‘Pop’ artworks use mostly primary colours and thick black lines, and the subjects in the artwork are everyday popular objects/items/people.
The students created their own Roy Lichtenstein inspired collage ‘onomatopoeia’ comic book style art.
They needed to select a word that no-one else had and draw it in large bubble writing. Then they needed to draw ‘Ben-day’ dots on the words. All the other parts were drawn and cut out of primary coloured paper and placed to make the composition. Once they were happy all the parts were glued down.
WOW!!!! These are fantastic. Great work everyone.
