Yr 2 -Ken Done Reef artwork

The Yr 2 students have been learning about the iconic contemporary artist Ken Done. Ken Done is famous for his bright/vivid child like paintings. Ken Done is known for depicting famous Australian landmarks such as Sydney Harbour Bridge, Sydney Opera House, Great Barrier Reef.

The students learnt about Ken’s childhood and life as a Designer/Artists, as well as using their observation skills to talk about what he paints in his works of art.

The students were then inspired to create their own ‘Great Barrier Reef’ artwork using oil pastels and water colour wash.

Here are the Yr 2’s reef artwork. I just love the exciting colourful fish and vivid coral reefs, using the oil pastels.

Yr 2 ‘POP Art’ – Roy Lichtenstein

The Yr 2 students have been learning about ‘Pop Art’ and the artist Roy Lichtenstein. He is famous for creating large scale paintings and also made sculptures.

He was influenced by cartoon comics and the way they were made using printing machines that produced small dots of colours called ‘Ben-day dots. He created his works as a very large scale paintings. He was criticised during the time of POP ART in the 1950’s to 1960’s for his work; he was told his style of art ‘Is not Art’.

Many ‘Pop’ artworks use mostly primary colours and thick black lines, and the subjects in the artwork are everyday popular objects/items/people.

The students created their own Roy Lichtenstein inspired collage artworks based on his famous ‘Sunrise’ artwork. They needed to draw, cut and paste all the parts to then layout to make the collage ‘sunrise’.

I am so impressed with how amazing these have turned out !!!!!

WOW!!!!

Well done everyone, Miss Manna 🙂

Yr 2 – Pablo Picasso Collage faces

The Yr 2 students learnt about the art movement ‘Cubism’ and the famous artist Pablo Picasso. We looked at how Picasso created multi- angled paintings of people and buildings. He was able to paint portraits with the facial features looking in different directions, this made the viewer wonder which direction to look.

    ‘Weeping Women’      ‘Women Spanish’

The students created their own portraits, using small pieces of paper to draw facial features and then paste them onto A3 paper. They then needed to add the head and other details, then colour each section in. The collage needed to have the facial features placed in different positions to make the artwork look interesting.

These have turned out fantastic. Well done everyone!!!!

Yr 2 ‘The Dot’ Peter Reynolds

At the beginning of the year the Yr 2 students read the book ‘The Dot’ by Peter Reynolds.

They were given an activity to get their imagination turned on. A black ‘DOT’ sticker was given and they could place it anywhere on the A4 page and turn it into an interesting drawing. The students were told to make it as creative as possible and to add as much detail to their drawing to help the audience understand the picture more.

Some very creative ideas drawn. Well done Yr 2 🙂
