The end of last term the Reception classes created these Easter Bunny paintings. After reading the Easter story ‘The Best Easter Egg Hunt Ever’ by Dawn Casey, the students did these explicit directed drawings of the Easter Bunny, then painted the outside with watercolours.

Well done Receptions !!!!!

  ‘Wassily Kandinsky’

The Year 3 students learnt about the Russian Artist ‘Wassily Kandinsky’. He had an ability to see different colours when listening to music. Most of his compositions were created whilst listening to various music (jazz, classical…)

One class experimented with blending oil pastels together and the other class experimented with watercolours. They also had to create an interesting composition that lead the eye around the page.

WOW!!!! They have done an amazing effort at creating their artwork.

Well done!!

Receptions – Piet Mondrian inspired collage

The reception classes have recently learnt about the famous artist ‘Piet Mondrian’. He used only vertical and horizontal lines and Primary Colours (blue, red, yellow) in his artwork.

The students worked on developing their gluing and pasting skills by neatly placing pre-cut strips of black paper (horizontally & vertically) and coloured squares & rectangles down in interesting positions to make other white squares & rectangles.

They had lots of fun and enjoyed making their collages.

Well done everyone. They look awesome !!!!

Yr 3 – Mandala Art

At the start of this year I read the book ‘The Dot’ to the class and talked about lines and patterns that repeat in a concentric circle.

They learnt about the art style of Mandala design and it’s origins, why they are created and how they are made. The students then spent several lessons working on their detailed Mandala circles.

These are some of them.

They have done a wonderful job at the line/patterns and colouring in. Well done!!!

Yr 4 & 4/5 – Imagination creation

To begin the year off I read the story books ‘Ish’ and ‘The Dot’ by Peter Reynolds to the class. I then discussed with the class that sometimes you need to just let go and think outside the square. I told them about an old TV show called Mr Squiggle and how he turned some lines into something amazing.

So this activity was to get them to do just that. Turn the lines into something interesting and different.

Some great ideas generated by the students.

Well done!!!!

Yr 2 ‘The Dot’ Peter Reynolds

At the beginning of the year the Yr 2 students read the book ‘The Dot’ by Peter Reynolds.

They were given an activity to get their imagination turned on. A black ‘DOT’ sticker was given and they could place it anywhere on the A4 page and turn it into an interesting drawing. The students were told to make it as creative as possible and to add as much detail to their drawing to help the audience understand the picture more.

Some very creative ideas drawn. Well done Yr 2 🙂

Lines – Receptions

The reception classes have been learning how to make different lines in art. We read the book ‘Ish’ by Peter Reynolds and talked about how we can make different lines: vertical, horizontal, diagonal, zig-zag, wavy, curly…

They also learnt a song about lines. Very catchy tunes.

Then they drew different lines using oil pastels and then a wash of various colours over the top.

Well done everyone 🙂
