The reception classes have been learning how to make different lines in art. We read the book ‘Ish’ by Peter Reynolds and talked about how we can make different lines: vertical, horizontal, diagonal, zig-zag, wavy, curly…
They also learnt a song about lines. Very catchy tunes.
Then they drew different lines using oil pastels and then a wash of various colours over the top.

The receptions listened to a story called ‘The not so quiet mouse’ by Ruth Waters.
We discussed using inside and outside voices and most importantly listening in class when the teacher is talking.
As an activity the students did a guided drawing of a mouse. They had to listen and carefully follow the instructions, whilst also giving it their best effort. Here are some of the Receptions amazing work.

The Yr 1 class earlier this term learnt about Indigenous Aboriginal art and how and why they were created. We read several dreamtime stories and learnt about some symbols used to tell stories. The students then experimented making their own Aboriginal inspired artwork.

The Year 2 students have been learning about the element of ‘Form & Space’. They looked at 3D sculptures and learnt about what makes a sculpture a sculpture! This activity was to create an interesting sculpture using paper to manipulate into a 3D piece of art. They learnt ways to fold, twist, cut, bend, curl… the paper, to create interesting angles and shapes using various sizes and coloured strips.

In class we read the story ‘The Rainbow Bear’ by S.M.King. We then looked at the artwork by famous Canadian Artist Ted Harrison. We talked about the simple lines, shapes and how he used warm & cool colours in his work. The students created this mixed media collage artwork.
I love all the wonderful expressions the polar bears have. They have turned out beautiful! Well done 🙂

The Year 3/4 classes have been learning about the element of art ‘Value’ ( the darkness/lightness of a hue). They experimented with shading and increasing the values by applying firmer pressure with the 2B lead pencils. Some very neat shading and persistence needed for creating the different values.

The Year 7 students painted these silhouette trees using warm and cool colours. They needed to use watercolour paints to blend 2 warm or cool colours together to create these beautiful paintings.

The year 7’s earlier this semester took great care in creating their ‘zentangle hair’ drawings. Focusing on the element of Line the students needed to add different thickness, size, and shape lines to their photos.
Some very neat and detailed line work drawn! Well done, some crazy hair 🙂

The Year 3/4 students have been learning about warm and cool colours. They then created these Hot air balloon mixed media artworks.
They used textas to colour in the warm colours and used paints for the cool sky colours.
They have turned out really well. Great blending of the paints 🙂

For book week 2020 we read the story ‘My Friend Fred’ by Frances Watts & A.Yi. The receptions then did a guided drawing of Fred and then painted him in.
