A visiting koala

Watch the visit today of a koala. He walked across the road, up the driveway of another house  and climbed a tree in their yard!

Week 5 Sharing: Who am I?

Who am I?

To coincide with Book Week,  the children in Room 4 have spent Week 5 exploring characters from books.  The children were asked to dress up as a character from a book, write 5 clues about this character, and present it to the class.  Look at the characters we have choosen!

The theme for Book Week 2011 is "One World, Many Stories".

Book Week Parade

All of the Junior Primary chldren had a parade today. There were so many great characters and costumes. We clapped as each class went passed us. At lunch time we had a shared lunch on the oval. It was a beautiful day.

Please look at our TUMBLR for video of the parade. You might have to stand on your head for one of the film clips! LESSON 1: HAVE THE PHONE UP THE RIGHT WAY!!

Book Week-One World Many Stories

As part of our Book Week celebrations we went to the Library with our Buddies. Mrs. Langham gave us all a Passport. It looked like this:

We then ‘visited’ continents and read stories, answered questions and played games relevant to those countries.

Here is a slide-show of us in the Library with our Buddies.

Thank you Ms. Menere

This week we celebrate the great SSO’s (School Services Officers) who do a magnificent job at Craigburn Primary School. In particular Room 4 thanks our Bursar Ms. Menere. Handling the finances of a big school like ours must be very difficult and we are very grateful for all her time and effort. Thank you Ms. Menere!

Resource Based Learning

We have begun Resource Based Learning lessons with Mrs. Langham in the Resource Centre. This week we are working out the criteria for a successful excursion for Year 1 students.

Here are some of the ideas we have come up with so far. Our excursion needs to be:

       safe

a place we may not have been to before

       a place to learn

       fun

somewhere that doesn’t cost a lot

What do you think of our criteria so far? Here are some photos of us working in the library.

News! We are using Tumblr!

We have found a new way to share our learning with the global community. It’s called Tumblr.

Tumblr is a microblogging platform that allows users to post text, images, videos, links, quotes and audio to their tumblelog, a short-form blog.

We will be able to access media instantly and upload within moments of events happening.

Today Sienna and Hannah filmed us doing Be Active dance and back in the classroom the children gave their thoughts about fitness.

You will find the Tumblr link on the right hand side of our Blog or click on the Tumblr icon for a quick link.

Please visit this as often as you can.

Inquiry Unit- making a Wordle

After looking at the children’s mind maps again, we typed in their key words about what skills a great working group has. This mind map shows all the fantastic ideas that a group of Year 1’s came up with.

Together we made a wordle. A wordle is a word cloud where the most commonly used words appear larger than the others. The children read their key words and these were typed onto the wordle. In the following photos you can see us looking at the developing wordle on the whiteboard.

We looked at many presentation types for our wordle and this is one that we chose. When you look at it remember the larger words are what we think are important skills to have when working in a group.

What do you think are skills you need to have when you work in a group? Do you agree with the words we came up with? Have you ever made a wordle? Please tell us what you think of our wordle.
