Thankyou Maia and your class from Coffs Harbour (in New South Wales) for your postcard. Mrs. Kolenberg loves Coffs Harbour! It is one of her favourite places.
It must be exciting having a jetty near your school. Do you go fishing very often?
Happy Birthday to these people who have celebrated their birthdays recently.
At Last…… we can now announce the result of the vote to determine where we will be going for our excursion.
We are going to the Toy Factory at Gumeracha and Melba’s Chocolate Factory!
The excursion has been booked for Wednesday 23rd November.
Please take some time to watch the following presentations. I am sure you will be very impressed and perhaps you could go to these places as a family!

We were lucky enough to have Katie and Pat come to our school to give us some great tips on playing cricket. We rotated through 4 different activities that focussed on different aspects of the game. We had lots of fun as well as developing our skills. Who knows, one day we might see some of the children playing for Australia!
You can also visit TUMBLR. to see more of our great skills.
As you would be aware, the children in rooms 3 and 4 had to decide on an excursion that would be suitable for us to go on. There were many factors that had to be taken into consideration and lots of research using I-pads was undertaken. They then had to give a presentation putting their points of view across so that we might vote for their excursion. Once they had presented, we then asked the group members questions for clarification. The following photos show you what it looked like when each group was presenting to the unit. If you hover over the photo it will explain what was happening. Please talk to your child about the process. They will be happy to explain!
We were so proud of the presentations that the children prepared and in our next post we will announce the decision and share the presentations with you.
Last term Rooms 3 and 4 read Charlotte’s Web. We read a chapter and then discussed what had happened and sometimes we drew pictures of what we could see in our mind. This was a perfect way to incorporate ‘Listening to Reading’ into our daily 5.As we were reading we discussed new words and used them as extension words in the Reading Cafe.We also watched a DVD of Charlotte’s Web at the end of the term and compared the similarities and differences between the movie and the book.
This term we are going to design our own comics using the Scholastic Charlotte’s Web Site. Hopefully you will see some of them in a future post.
Here is a link to take you to the site so that you can practise at home.
Have fun making a comic and tell us what you thought about making it. Did you also enjoy reading the book?
How exciting! We had two more postcards arrive yesterday. One is from South Africa and the the other is from Invercargill in New Zealand.
Please go to our Postcard Project page to read about our new friends.
Last term we worked with Mrs. Langham in the Library as part of our Unit of Inquiry. Our Unit involved working together in groups to plan a learning excursion and then present their ideas to Rooms 3 and 4.
Here we are with our new I-Pads. Most of them belong in the Library and we have one to use in our classroom.
We went to the Library once a week for Resource Based Learning. As a group, we chose some places we’d like to visit. We then researched them for things like distance from school, price and the learning outcomes. We had to work co-operatively with each other in order to make a successful descision.
These photos show you what we did in the Library to prepare for our presentations.
Stay tuned to see the presentations and our voting!
Hello everyone. Welcome to Term 4. I hope you all had a terrific holiday and did lots of fun things.
I am sure this term will go very quickly and before we know it Christmas will be here!
When you come into our room you will notice that our frog visitors have gone back to Thiele Primary School. It was great being able to watch them and how quickly they could move when the crickets went in!
Luckily for us we have new visitors and I’m sure we will have lots of fun observing their interaction with each other.
We have Hopping Mice! They are a native Australian animal and luckily they don’t need a permit to be kept in captivity.
Here is a photo of Hopping Mice taken by Stephen Barnett. The photo was found on Flickr.
Hopping mice are very busy little animals as you can see from this YouTube clip!

What do you know about Hopping Mice? What would you like to know about them?
Do you know what they eat?
