Sports Expo

At Craigburn the Junior Primary children spent the day having a go at lots of different sports. It was a wonderful day. We got to try these sports: Little Athletics, Baseball, Golf, Korfball, Tennis, Taekwondo, Zumba, Wheelchair Sport and Earth Ball. We tried everything and it didn’t matter if we were good at it or not. The most important thing was that we all had a go.
We all had a great day! The weather was beautiful and everyone participated enthusiastically.
Room 4 would like to thank all the instructors for their wonderful effort today. We really appreciate you coming to our school and sharing your knowledge with us.

Skipping with our Buddies

On Friday we had a whole school assembly and the school’s jump rope team gave us a demonstration of their skills. They were fantastic!
They then took classes for a skills session where we could have a go at doing double dutch, skipping with the long  and small ropes. We enjoyed doing this with our buddies.

Thank you Miss Grant and the Jump Rope team. We really appreciated you giving us some lessons. We love skipping!

There is also a TUMBLR.  for you to see.

A Day In Room 4

Our Blogging friend at  Harston Primary (Mrs. Wilson) took some time lapse photography of a day in her class. She saw it on Mr. Avery’s Blog. It shows you the events that happen in a classroom over one day in around one minute!

We decided to do the same thing. Mrs. Kolenberg set the laptop up on a cupboard and using a programme called JellyCam she timed when the photos would be taken. Our day takes just over two minutes to watch. That’s a very quick day!

There are times when we aren’t in the room. During those times we are at Recess, Lunch, German and in the Hall.

Have fun watching a day in our room at super pace!

Whole School Assembly

Today the Junior Primary children performed some items at our whole school assembly. We have been learning a lot about place value and we thought that the assembly would be great place to share our learning in a fun way with rest of the school. Mrs. Nelson and Miss Harry’s classes joined in with us. We found this fantastic song on one of our quad blogging buddies blog (Miss Leach’s 2nd grade class) and we decided to use it.

Here is a movie of our performance.

Did you enjoy the performance? Please leave us a comment telling us about it.

Charlotte's Web

Last term Rooms 3 and 4 read Charlotte’s Web. We read a chapter and then discussed what had happened and sometimes we drew pictures of what we could see in our mind. This was a perfect way to incorporate ‘Listening to Reading’ into our daily 5.As we were reading we discussed new words and used them as extension words in the Reading Cafe.We also watched a DVD of  Charlotte’s Web at the end of the term and compared the similarities and differences between the movie and the book.

This term we are going to design our own comics using the Scholastic Charlotte’s Web Site. Hopefully you will see some of them in a future post.

Here is a link to take you to the site so that you can practise at home.

Have fun making a comic and tell us what you thought about making it. Did you also enjoy reading the book?

Planning An Excursion

Last term we worked with Mrs. Langham in the Library as part of our Unit of Inquiry. Our Unit involved working together in groups to plan a learning excursion and then present their ideas to Rooms 3 and 4.

Here we are with our new I-Pads. Most of them belong in the Library and we have one to use in our classroom.

We went to the Library once a week for Resource Based Learning. As a group, we chose some places we’d like to visit. We then researched them for things like distance from school, price and the learning outcomes. We had to work co-operatively with each other in order to make a successful descision.

These photos show you what we did in the Library to prepare for our presentations.

Stay tuned to see the presentations and our voting!

Marathon Day

ImageChef Word Mosaic - ImageChef.com

Today we had a special day to raise money for The Little Heroes Foundation.

We had a Marathon Day by running lots of laps around the school oval. The money we raise will be going toward the purchase of a new MRI machine for the hospital and supporting the children who need to use it. Some of us dressed up as heroes  and the photo is below.

Here are some photos of us running around the oval.

Visit TUMBLR. to see a movie of us running.

We had a sausage sizzle on the oval to celebrate.

Super Tennis With Shane

We had  a tennis session with Shane today. We divided into two groups and did two different activities. One was hitting balls against the wall or bouncing the balls on the floor and the other was using rebound nets, a spiky ball and a net to catch the ball in. We had lots of fun as well as learning some skills for tennis. Thanks Shane for coming to our school to give us a lesson. Have a look at our TUMBLR site to view all the budding tennis stars!

Can you see anyone with potential here?
