Mrs. K on holidays

Dear Room 4 Parents and Students,
I’m writing this post to say a very big thank you for the best wishes given to me on Friday. I am going on long service leave until the end of the year and am looking forward to my holiday in Queensland and NSW. The afternoon tea with you and the children was just fantastic! It was a lovely surprise. The children did an amazing job keeping the secret! Thank you so much for organizing the food, balloons and our buddy class to be there too.Your gift to me is very special and I’m sure I will find some great things to buy! I have had a wonderful year teaching your children. I’m so proud of all of them and the wonderful progress they have made. It’s a privilege to have been part of your children’s lives.
I am sure that Miss Tonkin is very excited to have the opportunity to look after the children until the end of the year. There are lots of fun things happenening and the rest of the year will zoom by!
I send you all my very best wishes and look forward to catching up with you in 2013.
Kindest Regards,
Leanne

Excursion To Port Noarlunga Reef

Did you know that Pt. Noarlunga is a fringing reef? We had an excursion there today with the other year one class. The weather was just right. Fine with a little cloud and about 21 degrees. There were instructors to meet us and the children went in groups with them. We had to get into rubber dingies and that was scary but fun! We wizzed out to the reef with our thick socks on so that we didn’t damage the reef. Once we were there, the instructors showed us many amazing things. So much life is out there that we normally wouldn’t notice. We were told how the reef came to be in Aboriginal stories and the life cycle and feeding habits of reef creatures.

It was a wonderful day. Many thanks to the helpful parents who came with us.

Have you ever been on a reef?

What did you see there?

The Opening Of Craigburn's New Environmental Learning Centre

Today was the day Craigburn Primary School  opened its new Environmental Learning Centre. Many people have been working very hard for a long time to make sure the centre was ready. It looks fantastic and it’s s a credit to those wonderful parents, teachers and helpers who have put in many hours of hard work to ensure the centre is a great success for all Craigburn community members who visit it.

Our class was fortunate to have a guided tour of the centre led by our buddy class members. It was great to see the wonder, excitement and expectation on the children’s faces as they explored this new learning space.

The school celebrated the opening with a whole school assembly with each buddy class making a presentation to the audience.

Our class along with Miss Grant’s class who  busily collected recyclables won the inaugural gold recycling bin!

Have a look at the Photopeach slideshow to see all the fun things that happened.

Do you have an Environmental Learning Centre?

What do you do in your centre?

Have you cooked with the things you have grown?

i-Pads and i-Pods

We are lucky enough to now have access to 5 i-pods and 5 i-pads across the early years team. Together with Mrs. Kolenberg’s i-pad, i-pod and her phone we have one moblie device between two children. After the excitement of getting them we had to decide what apps to put on for the Reception and Year One classes. Mrs. Kolenberg knew that her teacher friend Ms. Lirenman in Canada had spent a lot of time looking at apps and then shared them with her colleagues around the world via her blog called Learning and Sharing with Ms. Lirenman   Thankyou Ms. Lirenman for sharing with us!

So we had a look at those apps and have started to put some of them onto our own devices. Some of my children in Year One helped me find the apps at the App store and together we made folders to put the new apps into. They were a great help. Many thanks to those boys!

We are very keen use these devices and learn from each other.

Here are some photos of the class using all the devices for the first time.
