Writing Our Numerals

We have been practising how to write our numerals the right way round. For some of us that’s a bit tricky!
Here is a lovely youtube clip that we used to help us. Perhaps you could practise writing your numerals at home as well.

Can you write your numerals correctly? Are there any that you have to think about which way they face?

Room 4 at Craigburn Primary School

Welcome to everyone visiting our blog. We are a class of new year ones and our teacher is Mrs. Kolenberg. There are 25 children in our class and we only started back at school from our holidays on Tuesday. Craigburn is a school in the foothills of Adelaide. We have lots of trees and are lucky enough to have many birds and koalas visiting. This term will be 11 weeks long. It’s summer right now. We are going to learn about keeping ourselves healthy as well as working together co-operatively. We are looking forward to working with Mrs. Nelson’s Year Ones this year.

Please visit our blog often to catch up with our learning.

Mrs. K has put together a video of our school so that you will know what our place of learning looks like.

The Holidays

Here we are back with a new class for 2013!

Today we talked about the things we did during the holidays and you will see we did many intersesting things!

We used PrimaryWall to pin the activities we did during the Christmas break. Click on the link to take you to Primary Wall.

Did you do any of these things? Where did you go? What was your favourite thing to do?

Mrs. K's hopes for 2013.

The beginning of a new year is always filled with excitement, anticipation and sometimes even nerves… for the children, their parents and of course, me! I made this Storybird to share my thoughts and hopes for the 2013 school year. I hope you find time to view it, think about it and provide your feedback via a comment. Thank you. I’m looking forward to a great year. It is sure to be very exciting!

Week 4 and 5 with Miss Tonkin

Well, this is my third week at Craigburn Primary and I am loving it.  What a fantastic beginning to my teaching career!  We have been extremely busy with various activities involving the whole school – Craigburn’s Got Talent, Halloween, Gala Day, and Music is Fun.  It gives the children a wonderful opportunity to involve themselves creatively with their peers, utilise life skills outside of the classroom, whilst celebrating local events.

It has been wonderful getting to know the Year 1 students and parents of room 4.   I have appreciated the support from all the staff within the school – in particular my team teacher Ms Cave.  Everyone has been welcoming and friendly, thank you!

It was very exciting being able to share Ms Cave’s Canadian Halloween celebrations at the end of October.  Take a look at our Halloween photos; we had some very interesting characters turn up to class!

Below are some ‘happy snaps’ which capture some of the highlights from Room 4 over the last couple of weeks.  My next update will cover Sports Expo and more learning in the classroom.

Hello room 4 parents,
I have found the biggest bookshop I’ve ever seen at Eumundi. It has new and old books and even rare books selling for up to $2,000! It was a place where you could sit and read and marvel. It got me thinking about how I might spend the voucher you gave me.

Mrs. K on holidays

Dear Room 4 Parents and Students,
I’m writing this post to say a very big thank you for the best wishes given to me on Friday. I am going on long service leave until the end of the year and am looking forward to my holiday in Queensland and NSW. The afternoon tea with you and the children was just fantastic! It was a lovely surprise. The children did an amazing job keeping the secret! Thank you so much for organizing the food, balloons and our buddy class to be there too.Your gift to me is very special and I’m sure I will find some great things to buy! I have had a wonderful year teaching your children. I’m so proud of all of them and the wonderful progress they have made. It’s a privilege to have been part of your children’s lives.
I am sure that Miss Tonkin is very excited to have the opportunity to look after the children until the end of the year. There are lots of fun things happenening and the rest of the year will zoom by!
I send you all my very best wishes and look forward to catching up with you in 2013.
Kindest Regards,
Leanne

Excursion To Port Noarlunga Reef

Did you know that Pt. Noarlunga is a fringing reef? We had an excursion there today with the other year one class. The weather was just right. Fine with a little cloud and about 21 degrees. There were instructors to meet us and the children went in groups with them. We had to get into rubber dingies and that was scary but fun! We wizzed out to the reef with our thick socks on so that we didn’t damage the reef. Once we were there, the instructors showed us many amazing things. So much life is out there that we normally wouldn’t notice. We were told how the reef came to be in Aboriginal stories and the life cycle and feeding habits of reef creatures.

It was a wonderful day. Many thanks to the helpful parents who came with us.

Have you ever been on a reef?

What did you see there?

Hip Hop O'clock

This is our first week back at school for term 4. In Maths we are learning to tell the time to the hour and half hour.

We found a great song on youtube that helps us with our o’clock times. You might like it too.

Do you know how to tell the time?
Can you tell the time on digital and analogue clock?
